Haven't looked at this one for some time David,
It really is taking shape now with fantastic attention to detail,
just a note about slates and tile difference of fixing.

Modern tiles are fixed to tile battens, and slates are nailed direct to the roof sarking board which would be covered with bitumen felt. you have your battens on now so it wont matter as long as there are no high winds

Look forward to the finish of this mega project (y)

Ron

Hi Ron

Great to hear from you mate.

The church is in a sheltered area:D!!! But seriously I'm not fussed as you will not see hardly any of the battens underneath and unless anyone has the historic knowledge of historical roof structures I do not think its going to be an issue;)

As always I appreciate your input.

Cheers
Dave

Hi Carl

The tiles will be of use as I will use them as effective stonework on another project but unfortunately they were to thick and so out of scale.

The plasticard is labour intensive but gives good results so happy to plod on.

Thanks
Dave
Always a problem when you can't see them in hand, as it were.:(
At least you can use them again,:)

Hi Dave, every step you take is raising the bar on this one mate. In my book, this is a class winner in any competition you care to enter. Figures bring it into perspective and the scene is set. This really is a pleasure to follow and a great inspiration to us all.

Regards

Ron

That's a massive compliment Ron, it really is inspiring me to get it all right and hit the finish line without leaving any stone unturned!

I can't stress enough what an impact you have had during this build.

I have been doing a bit more thinking and I reckon the paint job will take around 5-6 months so not sure I'll hit my 1yr target.

What's left to do before painting:-

-finish roof tiles
-finish guttering
-finish final tiger detail
-add floor tiles
-fix to base and complete ground work (internal/external)
-prime metal tracks
-complete and prime all figures

Once this is all done we have to remember that my figures will be sporting pea dot camo (mp44 tops/trousers a combination of both or just trousers to add variation)

So still a mass to do do(y)

Dave

Thanks Dave that means a lot. What I love about PF is the support we receive along the way from so many talented and knowledgeable people. Targets are what we aim for but the true aim is on the end result. Got a way to go yet, but worth the journey in my book.

Cheers

Ron

It is not just about getting there. "You must strive to enjoy the journey"
So say the classics! :)

Youza Baby, this is pluggin along very well. Great roof detail and the figures do bring it round the bend. I know it'll be a bit before you start painting the figs, but that will be a treat. Looks really good Dave, standing by.

Cheers, Ski.:D

P.S. "Racing for Pink Slips" has begun.

Hi Steve

I'm really looking forward to all the painting TBH as I have done nothing but build since the end of June!

Thanks for your support mate?

Dave

Hi

Roof tiles about 95% complete, i just need to paint the wood, tidy some bits and add some more loose and broken bits of slate.

It took around 15 hours to hand craft each tile from the plasticard and you will note I have now trimmed and roughed up the damaged wood on all sides.

I need to add the lead flashing to the side and also underneath.

Masked and primed and another bit ticked off the build:-

Hi Dave, looking superb mate. May I suggest one or two missing tiles to add an air of blast damage, if not wear and tear. This would also allow for the inner work you have done to be visible and add depth to the build. Really enjoying this project and learning a lot.

Hi Ron

Good shout my friend, I'll continue to tinker as we funnel in to the intricate detail, there is a ton to add with rubble dust, splinters...........the list grows lol.

Thanks for your help mate(y)

Hi

Fixed the church walls to the base and started to lay the flloor.

Having studied a few churches the floors varied from flagstone, wood, cobble etc, but I stuck with the simple 2foot square stones to keep it simple as most of it is covered by the tank, followed by rubble etc, so no point in spending tons of time on this bit.

I am using 3mm cork which scales up to 2" thick so about spot on and each square stone scales up to 2 foot sq.

I gave the top a light sanding to help with adhesion. You will note I have moved some of the stones where the Tiger has backed in, as given the real life weight I am pretty convinced there would be alot of movement and cracking, splintering of stones.

One tip is I always place the scaled object next to a figure to double check it is right, which is why I have stood him on the cork board before cutting.

I will be rounding and chipping all the edges and adding some uneveness before filling with filla and giving it a coat of primer:-
