Thank you for your support.

Ron, I'll be using the dremmel and its quite easy as the slate is very soft so should be ok.

Thanks
Dave

Carl & Tiss

Thanks for your comments.

As stated before I'm a real stickler for getting all the tiny detail in that will bring it all together.

Some may find it a bit OTT but I have to have it just right or it's scrapped!!! I have some serious ambitions to take it to another level so I'll be doing 1 or 2 projects a year but I have the patience so that is the key area in any task.

I'm very much enjoying this progress even though it is slow and sometimes laborious, it's this site and the superb members that keep me inspired.

Thanks
Dave

Yep, sounds like we came from the same mold Dave, anal retentive detail and perfection to the best of ones ability. I'm there Brother, not fast either and I'd rather it sit than rush it, (Hue City, 10yrs from concept to completion).;)

And yes, it's the journey, not necessarily the arrival that is most pleasing. I'm getting ready to settle into the bunker for the winter and start on a 1/9 scale dio that will take some time, but it ain't goin nowhere and I ain't gonna sweat it if it ain't done by spring. Just pop in a Spaghetti Western or one of a hundred good ol war movies and let er rip. And there ya have it!(y)

Keep er rollin Dave, just lovin the SBS, a real treat to watch Bro! Ski.:D

Pure poetry Stevie baby, love your entertaining posts.

You are spot on in respect of finishing a project, just simply enjoy the build up and take your time. The devil is in the detail and is easily over looked if you just want to finish.

But finish for what?? To start another project a few months before you planned ???

Great fun all this work so I'll continue in the same vain.

Any clues on the 1/9 dio fella and any chance of a vbench???

Enjoying the build Dave.(y)
Carl.

I'll second that Carl!!

Dave, I've decided to put the Panama dio aside for a more comical dio/vignette and may work it thru Vbench. "Racing for Pink Slips", 1/9th scale BMW R750 vs WWII Harley. I will elaborate on that later.

Keep this beast rollin Dave, I'll be here. And as Carl said, this site makes it all worth it when it comes to learning from others and sharing impressive work.

Cheers, Ski. :D

Hi Carl & steve

Thanks for your comments and I agree that the site and its members help pull you through the mud.

Steve that 1/9 dio will look great, where did you get that from, looks like a quality kit?

I'm now going to start concentrating on the stained glass as the roof is pretty much done (apart from slate tiles, but this is an outside job as I use the dremel to thin them out!!!)

So will start experimenting and post back some results.

Cheers
Dave

Hi All

Not surprisingly the stained glass window is proving to be very difficult!!

The first thing I have done is to sand the perspex with wet and dry to give it an semi transparent look rather than clear, as if you study stained glass you will see that it has an almost scratched/dark appearence.

Perfectly clear stained glass looks wrong so I have deliberately made it look this way before applying any paint.

The other thing was establishing the end point for the lead given there are 2 dividers. So I have made and positionend these on the window to make it easier when applying the lead strips.

The lead strips are going to be hand cut either from lead golf tape or lead with with a sticky back cut in to 1mm strips:eek::cautious:

I am currently designing the lead design and once this is done I will put under the window and use as a template.

I have also purchased some decorative beads for 99p at hobbycraft, along with a small hexagonal box for the same price.

The box is glued shut and will be covered in wood panels which will sit on a wooden raised area (only about 10mm high) to accomodate the magnificent satue as shown in the pics below.

The area against the wall will now have an angel with a trumpet or some flat wall art.

You can see that I have added the beads to the roof structure as another touch of detail.

I'm really pleased with the progress now and the main window with the glass in as made it come to life.

Finally my cat would like to wish you all a merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!

Hi Dave, usual high standards applied to the details mate. Look forward to seeing the design for the window. Just a thought, would a wood base look right for a stone statue of that size and real world weight? How is the tile sanding going. Keep it coming as I look forward to each update to see what new ideas you come up with.

Cheers

Ron

Impeccable detail Dave, as expected, and let's hear one for the loyal friend, here, here, (got 5 in the house here at the Ranchito myself, two barn cats, and for you dog lovers we got four of them, and...........two horses).:thumb down::eek::sick::whistle: Never hurts to have a audience and a purr, cats are cool.

Looking forward to seeing how you get the glass done, should be intersting since I've never done it and plan to someday, so get after that learning curve, we're watching and learning.(y)

Cheers, Ski.:D

P.S. Mike, great link!

Hi all

thanks for your comments and continued support.

Ron, the idea is to give the impression of solid wood underneath a panel fascia so it would ( in the real world) cope with the weight, but it's still early days in respect of final composition etc bu many thanks.

Mike, thanks for your support. The stained glass windows produced for those particular windows restrict you to those designs so I would prefer to create my own template ( currently doing) although it is a challenge.

Steve, sounds like you do own a ranch!! Animals are great the cat often jumps on the table and stares at me cutting wood or cork for hours on end lol. I am drawing my own template to fit the window, I wNt it to be very colourful but not to complicated. Painting faces and hands on full size stained glass is a challenge, let alone 1/16. I will make it intricate but at the same time more about lines and shapes than highly detailed cloth.

Carl, good to hear from you as always, I see you continue to produce first class results with your latest offering. I hope you and your familly have a fantastic Christmas and hope to see you soon.

Cheers
Dave

Hi there think this is looking awesome in all aspects, love the ceiling roses and the way the box mirrors the statues base.

I once lost a 1/35 Fallschirmjager when my cat decided my model area would be a nice place to sleep, about a week later found it in the garden. The blue-tac on it had got it caught in his fur, either that or it decided to go on an adventure. lol

Thanks Lew J.

Hi Lew

Thanks for your comments.

I remember when I first arrived on this site and I had a go at a 1/25 Tiger with some old converted figures. I found the cat chewing the muzzle and the end had dissapeared so not very happy.

About 10 minutes later I found it stuck to the side of his bottom lip lol!!

Anyway we digress! below is a picture of my own hand drawn stained glass pattern, the dove symbolises peace with the spirit of this bursting through the clouds below. The area that looks like out of sync brickwork will be different shades of blue to represent the sky, the sun and rays will be a mixture of yellow and orange and the borders will be all sorts of different colours to seperate:-

I have seen Marijn van Gils doing a glass in lead pattern. He take a photocopie of a window and made that on a overhead sheet. It's alot easyer.
Here is a link: http://www.missing-lynx.com/gallery/dio/gvd.htm
Just my thoughts.

Thanks for your tips Marc it is much appreciated.

I'll have a go and see what it produces, but I am working on a larger scale so thickness of the glass is also a consideration.

Thanks
Dave
