Final Pics

Hi guys,

These are the final pics. Tomorrow is the wedding and this figure will be given as a present to my good mate Warren, who is getting married.

The figure represents his uncle John Woods who flew Spitfires and Hurricanes with No. 3 Squadron RAAF in the Med and Nth Africa during the war.

Although its difficult to see any major differences between these pics and the last set, I've been finessing and doing hundreds of minor touch ups all over the figure in the past week.

The final touch was to create an elevated wooden base and add a plaque to the front of the base. I'm pretty pleased with how this figure has finished up and I'm excited to see my mate's reaction tomorrow.

Hi Roger, welcome home Cap'n!! I started this figure four weeks ago and thought I'd finished it two weeks ago.;) Since then I've probably spent 30 hours tweaking all the little details to get it right. Thanks for your comments mate.:)

Hi Mark, the groom was blown away and so were all the guests. I couldn't have asked for a better response from Warren today than the tear in his eye when he saw it for the first time. I've posted a pic of him holding the pilot today at the reception. He looks unhappy, but actually he's trying not to cry until I took the photo.:p Thanks for your continued encouragement mate.:)

G'day Ken, the pedestal was intended to prevent people picking the figure up by the legs and make it more stable for display, but as you can see, it didn't stop Warren. He has a pretty safe pair of hands though. When he's not my business partner he flies aerobatic stunt planes for fun. Thanks for your support mate.:D

G'day Carl, the figure turned out better than I hoped but the reaction I got more than rewarded me for the long hours I've put into it. Warren's brother told me that their Uncle John Woods, the man I named the figure after actually looked very similar to this figure and that he died in his late thirties, partly as a result from his experience of flying Spitfires and Hurricanes over Libya and Crete during the war. Warren's brother asked me to paint one for him too, excactly the same!! :eek Thanks for your consistent support on all my projects mate.:)

Hi Adrian, thanks for commenting on the exceptionally "lifelike" sculpting of this figure. I wish I had 10% of the sculpting talent to produce a beautiful piece like this. It was sad to have to tell the guests at the wedding, especially the bride and groom, that I didn't sculpt it myself. All the credit for that goes to the genius sculptors at Naked Army. For a painter, it's much easier to produce great results when the sculpting is this detailed and realistic. Thanks for your comments mate.:)

G'day Steve, LOL I pissed myself when I read your comment this morning. You'll need to give me at least a month's notice if you want 1/6th scale, 2 weeks for 120mm and a week for 54mm.:p I had a great day today, drank and ate too much and got kissed by lots of lovely ladies. My figure was a real chick magnet. Thanks for your hearty support mate.:)

G'day Mitsutaka san, I'm very pleased you like the figure, My friend Warren will treasure this model and I know that it touched him deeply. It's very gratifying to be able to share my love for my hobby with my friends. The only problem with figures this big, is knowing when to stop painting. ;) Even now I still wish I had more time to work on it. Thanks mate.:)
