Baldwin and Dundas? Hmm I do like riding downtown... Trip to an art store, pedestrian bowling, then maybe a beer in the Queen West Village... sounds like a good Friday evening to me :sneaky:

Trench cap done.

I forgot to mention, the block of colour on the shirt collar, combined with the cap really serves to frame the face and give it a more natural tonality. I find you don't really get a true impression of the skintones until the surrounding colours are, at least, blocked in. IMO, when bordered in pure white, the skintones can look harsh and unnatural.

This bust is coming along famously

This weekend's progress. Bomb bag and strap not yet undercoated. Gloves just started. Haversack just started. He will look a bit better when I get the sheen left by the inks off his tunic and when his sleeve lace is done. :)

I am going to try to paint on the little arrows on this sleeve rank trim as per this picture. We will see how that goes.

The watch is based on this trench model Elgin I found on line. I painted the time as 7:30 AM, ....the time when the British troops, including the Tynesiders on the Tara Usna Line a mile to the rear of the front line, left their trenches on the morning of July 1, 1916. At the end of the day, the Tyneside Irish Brigade of four battalions (3,000 men) had been reduced to no more than about 50 effectives. Many of the missing men rejoined the colours later, but many more did not.

I am going to call the piece "Zero Hour!"

WOW... you absolutely flew through this guy at record speed. Not a lick of accuracy was lost in the speed though. This piece is turning out fantastic... colours are spot on and the differences in textures between materials is well executed.

Well done so far... look forward to the last shift

I am confused - the bust instructions say the medal ribbon is white with black centre. I can fnd no such British award. Closest I can find is the MC with a dark blue central stripe and no Tyneside officer would have had this pre-Somme.

I noticed that Colin when I painted this. I went with the MC and if anyone asks my bombing officer was transferred to the Tyneside Irish from another regiment where he was awarded the MC. ;):)
Great work so far too.

Roger.
