In between granddad duty and munching mince pies, I've been working on this figure over Christmas.

The basic figure is Verlinden's Hungarian knight with a couple of changes. I didn't like the kit head and damaged the visor anyway, so this languished for a few months until I remembered an old figure in the attic with a suitable helmet. The annual trip to search for the Christmas decorations provided the opportunity for a rummage, and I found it without too much trouble. I inserted a Moz Corry head inside and luckily the whole thing fitted onto the shoulders quite well.

I also didn't get on with the kit shield, which was more for jousting anyway, so I swapped it for this circular one, which I think has a nice Ottoman feel (spoils of war).

Finally I gave him a spear so that he appears to have stopped to adjust his helmet.

You keep cranking them out and painted to a very high standard indeed.Love all your works so far.

Oda.

Morning Peter

Good to see festivities and family haven't completely overtaken your bench time.

Lovely work and a well executed rescue from the attic.

Lovely metal and leather work Peter, always top notch.

The sword and Shield? lanyards must have be awkward in close combat?

Enjoy the next victim and a mini heatwave before the New Year too!

So the BBC say!

Andy - Thank you. The new photography is because of he lack of natural light at this time of year. Being a Granddad hase certainly revivified Christmas for me...

Aris - Very pleased that you like him. Thank you.

Steve - Well it's all over and hopefully some normality will return. The warm weather is unseasonal, but at least the gloom and rain have helped preserve that midwinter feeling. Glad you like the figure - I can't see that the chains would have many advantages at all unless you had taken a vow never to be separated from your weapons?

... that was exactly their purpose: nothing so embarrassing as loosing your sword mid-melee :nailbiting:

But it does seem to have been a particularly E-European thing, and largely died out by the 1400s

Nice work and good mods (y)

Thanks for that Neil. I once made a German knight with four chains - dagger, sword, shield and helmet - must have weighed a ton.

Hi Peter

Another good piece with the additions adding to the piece , like the choice of shield and the green

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Warren - I'm glad you can see some improvement because I can't! I'm never happy with my work, but that's the drive that keeps me going.

Nap - Many thanks.

Very nice work Peter.
The modifications are excellent.
Is that the helmet from the knight returning from battle (c. 1350)?

Cheers,
Andrew
