I wonder whether a rifle held out would work, as one might a pike or sword. Gripped at the centre of balance and either held pointing in the direction he is indicating or up and down.

I wonder whether a cane might work? Rifle slung and the cane being carried as officers did on occasion (odd for cavalry though).

I thought about the rifle being slung on the left shoulder upside down as shown in the famous print of the Queen's Rangers Rifleman and let him hold a sword. I forgot that the fellow in the print was pointing and is in almost the pose I am after!

Hi Mike

Catching up a bit, very interesting discussion here , liking the way your going with the figures

My thoughts are the ‘chop’ is too modern looking for the figures

These pics might be of interest for poses , uniform

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy sculpting

That's smashing!

I'm also admiring your rifles, are they 3d printed?

Yes. Very much another part of the hobby I enjoy, making 3d mechanical models.

I am particularly pleased with the printer's performance. I am able to show the lock in all of the various conditions.

It is also very handy for making various accoutrements.

I will make a Brown Bess eventually, since the regular infantry light companies mixed the rifles in with the muskets, and I would like to show how the riflemen and the bayonet equipped musket men interacted.

When I work my way up to the Napoleonic wars, I'll make a Baker as well.

I like that pose a lot more, nice find on that picture.

Thanks. That print must be from life. The upside-down sling carry on the left side is very much a carry for getting the rifle into action quickly. Swinging the left arm up and rotating the wrist puts the rifle in a firing position. The officer figure could get from the current pose to the previous pose I had him in in a second or so.

Oh wow! They are beautiful! I don't suppose you sell files anywhere (fair play if not, I'd not want those being added to the collections of the scammers out there)?

I dabble in 3d modelling but nothing close to what you're doing.

Thanks. I like the poses. They will be a useful reference for future figures from other units.

Thanks. I am thinking of selling the print sets in the future. However, I'll gladly send you some gratis if you's like. The printer creates a huge bounty of parts, more than I can use.

Thanks Mike, much appreciated. To be honest I do t think I’m ready to sculpt in 54mm (I’m still sussing out 1/16) bit I might take you up on that in the future.

Let me know, I haven't printed a 54mm set yet, but I have done 90mm and 120mm. I am pretty sure I could get a 54mm set to work fairly well. Being a tank modeler as well, 54mm (1:32/1:35) is a familiar size.

Mike

Ahh, I thought this was 54mm, 120mm I could work with.

If you’re interested I’m working on some hands you could easily model on the firelocks.

In fairness all I’ve done is rig an STL I found online with a skeleton in blender. If I sent it over you could easily fit it to the rifle as needed I reckon.
