A little tip if you have mounted the flat on a piece of card to paint it draw a little arrow to show where your light source is coming from.

I've done it like this from the top left as an example but you can do it either side it doesn't matter.

Well on the way with this. Rogers tip on directional light is crucial. What you need to consider as you progress is the basecoat, getting it right makes the highlighting and shading much more effective.
