WIP Critique 200mm Maurice Corry US Paratrooper Updated

Hi everyone, made a start on Maurices 82nd US Paratrooper though mine is being done as another Division.
I have added some stubble as I wanted to do the figure as a "DDay plus 3" scenario figure, Ie unshaven, the stubble was added using some Vallejo Sandy paste and then painted, this is as far as I have got, earlyish days I know, but you put off posting pics thinking I will do a bit more and before you know it is finished!

Please give me feedback, oh and for those that have the figure and have not started, i have added some links at the bottom showing photos of the uniform etc that I am using for the scheme..

Good job on the 5 o'clock shadow - not an easy effect to achieve.

Nice start Tony. Good reference sites too.
I see from the 'spade' card suit insignia he is from the 506th. I believe the 101st Airborne division dropped into Normandy with a small vertical (or square) painted white mark next to the regimental card suit insignia on their helmets which indicated which battalion they were in. If you think of the positions around a clock... 12oclock=Headquarters battalion, 3oclock=1st battalion, 6oclock=2nd battalion, 9oclock=3rd Battalion. If you google '101st helmets' and find some images you'll see what I mean. Its a small thing but you may want to add it for authenticity as you seem to have thought through the back story of this guy quite a bit.

Couple of updates and natural light used as suggested, much more happier with the result, shows it more "as is" so have deleted the others.

Boots painted, holster worked on, trousers altered to give a newer look to them and break up the overall colour, will fade a bit later, hope you approve of the better pictures

Mat will be adding the other markings thanks, found a website giving all the info

Right arm is now on! Knife on and gun painted, got the barrel on the wrong end and cut off the trigger lol, was lucky as still not hardened so managed to correct and make new trigger from some flash that is thinner and looks the part, will up some pics soon, been busy playing with new ipad.................using now

Hey tony great job so far, I like the variety in tones on the uniform and the leather boots an holster look spot on! Once you get that 30 slung over his shoulder it will come together! The only thing I notice was that he looks a little cross-eyed on the the second pic, that aside great paint job on such a big figure, they arnt easy to paint eh!!

Bit of an update, think you are right about the eyes Pete, will sort out later.
arms are on, gun seated temporarily, hands started but not finished, concentrating on weathering his clothing, mainly his jacket at the moment, I intend to make up some decals for the badges and also some chevrons, little bits of rubbing showing on boot soles etc, but will sort all these bits out later.

I see some great highlighting here. I might suggest you pinwash the seams to give more depth and maybe more shadows?
These 200mm figs are really difficult to do...so time consuming.
I love the boots they look superb, what colours did you use?

I have to agree with Grant. The work on the boots is excellent, remind me of oxblood DMs. Oh to be young again.

Thanks guys, the leather is a mix of Vallejo carne occurs dark fleshtone 72044, 70940 saddle brown and I think a base of 70984 flatbrown with a wash mix of black, laces were a dark sand colour with black added to suit... I just worked variations of the above until I was satisfied with the colour of his Docs ........ I then sealed them with rattle can humbrol matt and polished with my finger, to add a shine.

Will add some washes when the highlights are done.

Update, working on bits and bobs, added water bottle and doing hands, changed the background to hopefully make it stand out, intend to decal it, with Sgt stripes, union jack and airborne badges, also looking at a stencil or two such as the owners name and number on his jacket...

I love the dirtiness of war figures and you've done great with this guy.
There looks to be much more contrast in the folds and seams now.
And btw the background choice is a great one.
Extremely well done.

Might have been looking at the moz 200mm para with union jack on sleeve that i did on vbench that prompted the stars and stripes mindmelt mate - looks great smashing job chap

Ok, a little update, been working on the helmet, straps added and netting made and added. some webbing touched up, though some rub marks to sort and some decalling to do..

The netting is from a Automotive "Tack Rag" used to clean a car of dust etc before painting.

It was opened up to one thickness, washed with Isopropyl alcohol to remove the stickiness, then a large section cut out, PVA glue was added to the helmet and the netting laid over it to suit, stretching as required, when dried it was trimmed, the edges then reglued and folded under, again when dried the section over the strap was cut and removed, it was then given some washes of paint and lightly rubbed down to bring the material back through and sealed, the unfinished first aid kit is magic sculpt
