Finished the Drummer's coat includind the red facings.
For the drummers of this Elite Unit, the cuffs and vest were red unlike the rest of the Regiment.
The Drum references are none to be found, i have seen several renditions of them with different colors from different chaps who painted this regiment.
I was able to find a page and saw a picture of the dum case, not sure if this was earlier in their period or later.
So, i went with the brass color for the drum case and painted the hoops in Red as for the facing color.
The base of the Kimg's Livery Lace i am using Vallejo Silver grey as my standard color for silver white or white lace.

Very nice, plenty of detail to keep you busy. I know you prime in clear but it would drive even battier than I already am painting onto the metal.like that, but it works so more power to you.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Simon,
My standard primer is this :

It works amazingly good, dries out really quick and Matt finish, perfect for painting drtails.
I find that Mr Clear primer smells cery strong and sometimes paint chips in hard edges.

Have had brand automotive paints recommended in the past but after a disastrous experiment with Tamiya primer I've gone back to the cheapest grey primer I can find. What works for one may not work for another, so far the cellulose paint hasn't melted any plastic!

Cheers Simon

That is true, i find that Self etched primer great for metal and plastic figures , most of the "Hobby" primers can get quite expensive.

Also tried the Mr Colour filling primer, gave a lovely smooth surface but the shine carried through whatever I put on it after. Not sure if that's available this side of the Atlantic, if not there will be similar, might have to try it but will.need the grey primer over it or under it though!

Cheers Simon

Hi there mate, love what you have done so far, can I quizz you over how you maintain a nice flat finish - is it airbrushed flat top coast? I am finding my figures are staying shiny (from the washes) even after applying Two brushed on coats of Mig Ammo Lucky Super Matt Acrylic, it used to spray on lovely with my airbrushe but alas I had to selll it to raise some needed everyday cash.

Hi W,
Since i discovered this Matt varnish i have been using it as medium along with drops of water in my color palette mix.
Generally for base color i use 1 drop of water ( i use distilled water) and with the tip of the brush i take some from the Matt varnish and mix with the color.
When i dilute the mix for shades and lights i use a dab of it as well, it is very liquidy, so it works well as a medium.
Once the figure is finished i spray it entirely with Testors Matt varnish.
Try scale 75 paints, they are very matt and the result is very realistic, i do not fimd their reds to be very striking as tgeir blue paints.
I hope this help.
