Hi Johan,

I paint in watercolours so I have a larger range of colours to choose from. Without trying to sound like a prat!, I served in the Gloucestershire Regt when I was little, so I have been 'round the museum more times than I care to remember, and you're right it is more of a light ochre.

It's standard milliput, having declared I only ever use fine without exception. I thought I'd give it a go, and I'm finding it's alot easier to work with.

Well then it seems that you may be the man who can perhaps explain this mystery, something that I always found strange and never really understood: what's the deal with those "French knapsacks" at the battle of Waterloo? Is it true that the whole regiment had those, or just some veterans, and the rest the regular British "trotter" pack?
(The David Grieve figure has a French pack, and that's one from the Light company)

What I read, was that the Grenadier Company only had the French Knapsacks, that they "captured" in Egypt, but it's possible that others had them as well.

And thank you very much for the explanation on the french packs ... so I guess the David Grieve figure really represents a soldier of the grenadier company then; oh well then we'll paint that tuft on top of the shako white won't we .

... Or I might as well not bother with historical accuracy - after all these french packs look way more comfortable than the british ones, so maybe it's possible the others followed the example of the Gr. company

Anyway, it's good to meet someone here who is also interested in Wellinton's army at Waterloo

I'd stick to Light Company if I were you, especially with the wings on the tunic, He could have had a mate in the Grenadier Co .

That's great! . What scale is it actually, you didn't mention that I believe?

I also feel you've done an excellent "young" face there, very appropriate for an Ensign.

Having great fun with this, main bits to go are the left arm and standard, and then the fiddly bits on the epaulettes and shako scrolls (which will probably be the point where I stop enjoying myself and start swearing alot!)
