Hello all,

In case if you guys are interested, I had re-shoot my 2nd Ranger and had posted the new images in my web site : http://www.alphaimagemodelworkshop.com/Web...tail-W12002.htm.

Also, just for fun:)))) I had done a computer composite of the model with an added background.

vince ;) ;)

Love the added background Vince......gives the figure more character by adding the story of the invasion behaind him.

Guy and Roc,

Thanks!!

It's fun to have a small break ( I mean doing some silly thing like the composite image ) . Seldom I have done any computer photo-retouching for myself and I think this is the first one. This little piece took me five hours to put everything together. The bgd is the actual beach which I got a color photo from a book but I had flipped it in order to align with the composition. The beach photo itself is a postwar photo which has nothing ( no LCVP, explosion, warships, balloon......nothing.....very calm ) All the other elements were added in separately and color corrected, even the faint wave at the near foreground..:))) It's a lot of fun. Attached is the original beach photo.

If any boxart will done like these I suppose most armourbuilders will switch over to figure painting
Bert,

:))) In fact, the other side of my profession is an " armor" boxart artist. Here's a computer painting of a T34 that I had done recently. Unlike the top 2nd Ranger photo composition, this tank illustration is completely done from scratch, even the slightest scratch and rust, much like doing an conventional painting except the tool is computer , with no scan photos added in.

WOW! That is incredible. Really life like. I wish I had the know how to do that. Of course a better photo program would probably help a lot.

Brad,

Thanks! What program do you use? I am using Photoshop7, though I still prefer using Photoshop 3 which is much faster. I guess most photo-editing program nowadays are more than enough to do a project like this. Much of the features with the now popular photo-editing programs are just somewhat gimmicks which you can come up with same result with a much older program like Photoshop3 ( of course , you might need to work out how but that's exactly where the fun is )

Vince,

What a GREAT surprise! I never suspected we had a 'real' artist among us.

No doubt that like THE other 'real' artist, you have taken care to copyright the pose of every character in the painting .

Too bad because I'd be tempted to reproduce the second fellow from the left in 3-D ;)

Joking aside, it's a neat job and would make an evocative and appealing box-art.

'real'

Quang,

Hmmm, "real" artist. I remember there was a heated debate a while back about whether this few inches small tinny-winny painting of the minnies are a form of art. Some of them say "no, no" but I would say everybody here are artists to some extent. Don't think you need to have a art degree either though my back had turned to about 5 more degrees inclined to the front than normal after doing the "art" for 20+ years:))))

I guess there's no "real", "false", "non" or "surreal" artist BUT definitely there are "rich" and "poor" artist;-)) Sadly, I am among the latter group:-(.....:))))

vince

PS. Watch out Quang, I had also 60+ paintings and a lot of poses painted.....:))))

I hear you, Vince. From now on , all my figures will have twelve fingers and two left feet.

Concerning artists and 'real' artists, like we say over here: all men are equal but some are more equal than others.

Oh Quang,

Just stay away from anything between 10000 BC to 10000 AD, I think you'll be absolutely safe ;)

Does that also include zombies and extra-terrestrials?
Hmmm...... good question. I guess you should write to George Lucas or ILM, they might give you more insight as to whether there are any potential problems:)))) Or there are one or two prominent Copyright Experts in this Forum who can give you a lecture

Quang,

Oh, oh, nearly miss this one, any invisible men ( or women ) from any period should be safe, I guess. ;) ;)
