Started before my time but a good read through, these are splendid figures, love the conversion work and painted detail, and I thought 1/35th was small. I had a set of flats of these fellows at one stage and really liked the uniforms then. Will enjoy watching this progress.

Cheers Simon

Cheers Simon,
These 40mm figures are beefier and a joy to paint.
The owner is sending me 3 figures samples for me to critique
These 3 figures will be part of the French regular cavalry and then the Household cavalry eventually.
Perhaps i should wait and savevmyself the extra work of conversion on these Royal guard troooers, but that takes the fun of conversion away ;-)

Why settle for what is available when you can convert it, got to get your monies worth out of the figures! Enjoy the time at your bench.

Cheers Simon

That is right Simon,
Take care and keep up the awesome work on that figure you have on your workbench!

In order to build the back side of the coat and make it a little longer i will have to place the figure on the horse, i want to have a realistic Way of have a natural fall on the horse and right shape.
I did paint the red trousers using Scale 75 Blood red, then added some green to it for shades, and used antares Red ( scalen75 for lights.
As for the buff vest , i have used Vallejo buff with a dab of Iraqui Sand.
Tomorrow i will paimt the Boots and will glue the horseman onto the mount, the horse has the base color as well.

I decided to made a little mod to the horse.
The horse is from Front Rank, and i have placed the figure few times and wasn't very happy with the size of Horse/ figure ratio.
I did clipped the head, and rains ,added some putty mix of brownstuff and Magic Sculp to increase a slight length on the neck and torso of the horse.
I pinned the head with a slight twist of the head to the right ( as if you are monted on it) , i think it will give a more interesting look and size will not look odd.
To speed up the process of hardening of the mix i place the horse under a portable heather, it was rock solid after 1 hour, sanded some areas and repainted the base color.

And to continue my parade of Royal Horse guards i am starting on the next chap, Gardes du Corp .
This body guard Elite Unit was always surrrounding the king.
Their uniforms were Royal blue with silver lace, lined red, red vest and troussers....
I am using the French mounted officer SYW, this time i will try ro recreate the figure with breast plate and open coat.
This unit had 4 companies.
The first and more senior company was the Scottish company, and 3 French companies.
Each company had a distinctive Color on the babdoleers and housings.
Scottish company : white bandoleer laced in silver.
1st French company : green bandoleer laced silver.
2nd French company : Blue bandoleer laced Silver
3rd French company : Yellow bandoleer laced silver.
Perhaps i will have this chap with the yellow color as it offer a nice contrast with the uniform.

I have finished the lace and buttons on the coat, added the waist belt using Lead foil, cut to size, and then added a thin line of glue in order to set the belt in the right position.

I have worked on this chap a good part of my afternoon, the lace is finished .
I’ve got rid of the turndown collar to resemble more like the 1750's Gardes du corp coat, the turndown collar was introduced towards the 1760's.
I have mixed some greenstuff to do the lace in some areas and a mix of brownstuff and magic sculp in other areas.
The way it works better for me is to let the mix sit for 30', then roll them in little stripes , i add a thin line of glue in the area i want to place the lace , that way when i cut the little pieces they do not move and i shape them with exacto knife and a little sculpting spatula.
I also built the cuirass beneath the coat, added the buttons on the entire coat .
I did work on the back of the hair by adding the bag net for the tail of the wig, i still need to add the bowtie....
This chap is almost ready to be primed, i will place hin on the horse as well so i can build the rest of the coat skirts.
