Well, this is the figure I finished two weeks ago. It was mostly an experiment since this is the very first figure that I paint almost exclusively with acrylics. I have to say I´m not happy with the result, I need a lot more practice with acrylics to be as good as I am with oils. On the other hand maybe I´m too old for new tricks......

Wel done Anastasios. Your acrylics are comming along nicely. I will give you some tips about posting pictures when using kitpic or any other image storage. Bandwidth is what counts. The larger the photo....the more bandwidth you use. In the photos you posted look at the large amount of black area on each side of the figure. its about 1/2 the space of the photo. I cropped the photo taking out the black area and leaving the figure, thus requiring less bandwidth.

Any questions just email me.

Looking good! I tend to paint primarily with oils and have experimented with acrylics, with different degrees of success. I learned that the important thing is to enoy what you are doing. My experience was that I simply enjoy working the oils more than acrylics; there is something satisfying (to me) about "pushing the paint around until it looks right" that cannot be done with acrylics. Please do not misunderstand: I am NOT disparaging the use of acrylics, because the results that such painters achieve are simply stunning! I do use acrylics at times for certain effects, but the primary joy I get out of painting comes from working the oils. And that's why I paint nowadays: free time is too short, and if I'm not having fun, I need to re-evaluate what I am doing! ;)

Hi Bob,
my next project, that is already on progress, is painted in full oils. I enjoy oils more too!! It seems we are the "old" school. I thought of given acrylics a try, looking at those amazing works done by the acrylic masters. But in my opinon, I prefer investing the little free time I have getting my oil painting better than almost starting all over again and learn how to paint with acrylics. Apart from that I enjoy all these "problems" with oils, like "pushing around the paint", the long drying times whre in winter I have to wait for days maybe but gaining so much time thinking the next steps, the extra steps "wet over dry" afterwards.... it´s the way I learned. And I said "an old dog...." I too use acrylics though, mostly for detailing, belts, buckles etc. All over where I used to use emails some years before.

Thanks to all for the good words and the suggestions and Guy, you are right about the pic size, I will crop them soon as possible......

Anastasie Geia Xara.

I dont know if someone thats already confident and well skilled in a certainpainting medium "SHOULD" paint also withthe alternative . I mean i tried oils and they just dont suit me , so i paintonly with acrylics. Other guys do the reverse. So you can definately experiment with acrylics, but if oils are more fun for you and you really havea great time painting withthem stick withthem. Its sure that if you practise on acrylics you should be good enough on them also but...why spend time on this and not on improving even more on your oil painting. You have a decent effort there on a nice figure . Waiting to see mor of your work
