Here is my in-progress 95th officer. The head is just about finished, but I could not get good photos of him this AM. I think he looks a lot different in person. I hope to use two other figures to go with him, but I have to see if the different manufacturer of those two figures match up with this guy. I used an old Verlinden yelling head in exchange of the Mili-Men head, not because the kit head was poor, but because I liked the action of the yelling head.

He will be standing with his sword out, so I thought the yelling head added interest. Now I want to do a three figure vignette with maybe a tree. But in 120mm scale I'm not so sure about a tree. I have seen people using sage brush as a tree armature, which seems cool, but I live in NJ so no sage brush here. I hate the thought of doing a wire tree.

Try doing a dead or damaged tree, that way you just have to do the trunk and parts of the major limbs. You could use real tree twigs, etc as debris lying on the ground. Am picturing a tree damaged by round shot or something of that sort.

That's quite achievable with a wire armature and modelling clay or putty and you can chose a scale which would complement your figures rather than dominate them.

Good luck!

Dried Tree Roots are my go to as they look like tiny trees, plus you can pin and add branches as desired.

Hi Zane. Funny enough, I saw your 95th diorama and I really liked that tree you did. I saved a pic for inspiration for when it comes time for me to do something.

Bob that head looks a bit small. Slightly different scale perhaps?

Hi Jimmy. Based on a couple of photos I tend to agree with you. Especially the left side. But I think that is because of the two coats giving together making it look smaller. For instance, I think the right side photo seem ok. When I compare the kit head with the replacement head the nose and eyes meet at the same place, for instance. The kit head seems wider though. In the end, I think it is ok.

I suppose I do have to add some sideburns though.

What do you guys think?

Bob I have had the same problem with Verlinden 120mm heads (and hands) being too small for other manufacturers 120mm.The original kit head looks filled out and is definitely bigger.

Hi Bob

Catching up a bit here , good change of head and nice side whiskers as well

The green looks good and the frogging compliments it well , very neat painting

Really starting to come together now

Thanks for sharing

Coming on nicely.

What if any other figures are you going to include?

I just bought two 95th riflemen from Gordon Mitchell. They arrived the other day and I am going through the cleanup process now. I will post a few photos once they are together and primed.

My plan is to pose them together under/beside a tree. The tree will be the trick in making the vignette look nice. I'm thinking late fall so I can show just a few leaves. And a colorful ground too I suppose if I can come up with the right leaves. I do have a punch from Green Stuff that might work for this scale. I usually work in 1/35 so all my aftermarket stuff is in that scale, but one particular punch seems to provide large leaves. I wish our craft stores would reopen so I can go through their dried plant stuff to see about the main armature of the tree. I know I can try and find a root, but the craft store might have something preserved and ready to go.

Hi there Bob

Catching up again ! on this , certainly coming on well , like the green and the details on figures ( torn clothing etc )

Are you adding the officer to the duo as well ?

You might like to think about entering our Vignettes & Diorama comp thats running till end of September

Thanks for updates
