That arm was a bit of a pain, a solid hour of pushing putty back and forward and being unhappy with it so maybe taking that bit out and re-doing it is the best way forward.

Personally I wouldn't bother. It's not that obvious, and the way the figure is posed on the base it will be hard to see anyway. Unless it really bugs you, just store it away for the next one;)

The base looks great and the pose of the figure works really well on it.

Cheers folks. Over the weekend I managed to start getting colours roughed in. Normally I do faces first then work through a garment at a time, this time I decided to do the base colours for all the uniforms so I can get the overall look right before cracking on with shading etc. I’m not entirely happy with my British webbing colour, my attempts to mix the ‘buff with a hint of green’ of my original example have not been successful so far. I like the jacket base colour but wasn’t keen on the highlights so I glazed it with the base and now it looks much better, if a little shiny for now. Seated chap needs more work, I think the fundamental problem is I don’t like painting KD, or at least not using the colours I have. I’ll see whether I can find something better.

When this is all over I really need to do some ‘out there’ sci-fi subjects to get away from all this drab military colouring.

Oh, I also need to get much better at smothing the putty when I’m done, I’m really not happy with the finish in places and it was too fiddly to sand/scrape.

Nice progress, blocking in the base colours I find is a tedious job.

As for smoothing the putty, once it is fully cured a gentle rub down with fine wire wool can work wonders but don't get carried away or you stand to lose the detail.

Cheers Simon

Hi Stefan

Nice job on the wall , certainly adds to the story

Good to see colour appearing , KD is not a easy colour ....

You will have 2 great pieces when finished ...and you and us all can look forward to the sci-fi

Have fun @ the bench

Looking good, slow steady additions on the faces are best, hard part is knowing when to stop.

Cheers Simon

Thanks, I think I'm going to have to go back to Mike Butler's book and see how I can add some texture and imperfections to make them a little more lifelike.

Cheers folks, I'm hoping I can push him over the finish line by the weekend, then I've just got to tidy my workshop enough to take some pics.

Hi Stefan

Well I like that , very casual pose and idea , great you’ve learnt from it

Of course do share once fully finished in Completed forum and look forward to seeing the next project

Have fun @ the bench

Wow, considering that is the fourth scratch build you have done I'd say it's bloody marvellous. Of course there will be bits you aren't entirely happy with, I know that feeling all too well, but each piece is a lesson and the rate you're learning those lessons is remarkable. Massively impressed, you should be really proud of this one.

Cheers Simon
