Derek......based on your avatar, you're getting better looking every day, and the only reason I say that is because I consider myself a nice person and I don't want to hurt feelings……….:)

Following on from the base weathering of the Mk2 head...I have now layered on the oil shades using transparent colours...with the white being W&N Fast Drying White.
This colour lends itself well to this type of finish as it's very thick!....and it really does dry fast

Next up will be detailing of exposed edges/damage....then hoses/pipes/wiring.
Then it will be final placement of effects...oil...burns and top surface rust.

to be continued......

Hi Ron,
Finally some time to get back on this thread.(y)

I thought I would have a look at all the heads side by side as jumping back and forth on the pages is difficult to visualise.
I can now see the progression and why you were not happy and wanted to change the effects and colours to compliment
the overall composition of your piece.
Knowing you it's no surprise.;) Kudos, your vision of the piece is not right until it's right. As usual a very informative
S.B.S. mate.
cheers
Richie

Gonna buck the trend and say I like the original head! Sorry Ron :cautious:
Steve

Initially I was thinking similarly to you Steve. But when you think of the whole scene it would have been too highly coloured. The next couple of stages will add intrest without dominating the 'story' line.
Really like where its got to now (y)

I like the new head, so good on ya for going back to the begining, i remember going back to the resin on one head i was painting at least 4 times. Never heard of dettol as a stripper (oh Matron) before. Next time 'needs must' will have to give that a go.

Hello mate....as always your comments are bang on...you know me too well :D
Nice to be back at the bench...and enjoying doing the SBS :)

Talk soon mate (y)

That was my thought exactly Del...too much colour....despite having 'faded' the colours....it overpowered the whole scene.
With so much detail in the whole piece...it is a difficult choice of what colours to use....and a challenge to resist going over the top with effects etc.
I find myself continually placing the elements together on the base...just to be able to check what works or what needs changing.

Have to admit....I have a habit of changing/redoing stuff along the way....doesn't matter how well you think you have planned things...something will always catch you out :LOL:

You can thank Del for the 'Dettol' tip....remember it's the old dark liquid you need....most often available in 'pound' shops :sneaky:
I usually put the piece in an old tupperware over night with the lid on....haven't found a paint it won't remove yet!....and will not harm the piece be it resin/metal or plastic IME

This whole project has really got me thinking about colour, composition and what visual references and additions you need to tell the story.
Thoroughly enjoying this(y)

That really pleases me Del....if it helps....I was taught always to think in 'Triangles'....you will see the very obvious one in this composition....and colour is always a key factor.
Additions are a lot of fun to do....the difficult part is knowing when to stop! :arghh:
