Morning all
Been frantically busy at work recently so I've been struggling to find much time for anything else  That said I've usually got a few things on the go at the same time and these are two I've been working on recently which are now getting near to completion. Both are sculpted by a certain Mr Blank in resin around 70 mm and sold by Steve at SK.
Nice simple castings which I set about with a scalpel and Dremel to hollow out skirts and cuffs etc. (Sadly I'm not good enough to make solid masses look like thin clothing and find it much easier to do this than fool the eye with paint)
All painted in my usual acrylics (Vallejo/Andrea) apart from the red of the Lifeguards coat for which I thought I'd try a couple of the new Sacale 75 tube acrylics. Red is a colour I always find either looks too bright or too dirty, but I've got to admit I was quite sold on these and will be buying some more in the future. They are quite transparent, mix well with my usual colours and are slower drying which gives a little more time for blending techniques.
I broke the resin swords (as usual) so they are replaced with brass/wire/putty replacements and since the spurs were missing in the lifeguard kit a quick email to Steve ensured that some replacements will be cast and sent when they arrive.

Both figures have great faces and the rather plain uniforms mean you can have fun with paint to bring them to life rather than spending hours painting details - Recommended

Cheers

Very nice work Paul.
I was going to ask if you were using this Site for details of Danish cuirassiers (as per listing on Steve's site), but then noticed that the title of your photo is 'Austrian-1'.
Look forward to seeing these develop.

Cheers,
Andrew

Cheers Wolfgang and Sven - appreciate it (y)

Hi Andrew - thanks for the site reference
(I bought the figure a while back second hand and never thought to check Steve's site for references despite struggling with my usual sources) I eventually found a nice illustration in an old Men-at-Arms book which this fella is based on, although looking through the reference page you attached he could easily come from either the Danish 2nd or Brockdorff's (I quite like the idea of an entire regiment being disbanded because of 'bad conduct during a battle' - leads to all sorts of speculation and perhaps suggests a reason for the expression on this chaps face - Great:))

I was pondering what sort of groundwork for him (I've got an idea for the Lifeguard), but that's just the sort of thing that helps
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul

Thought you'd been quiet Nate , hope it's calmed down a bit for you at work

Mmmmm call me physic ..but I get the feeling you are rather impressed with Mr B's pieces .....and rightly so

I keep hearing about Scale 75 paints .....have you tried the ones in normal dropper bottles ?

Like the way both are lookng ...nice red and the buff coat looks good

Following this with interest

Happy benchtime

Cheers big fella (y)

Hopefully getting back to normal with the work side of stuff now so should get a bit more 'me time' :D

I really like the paints (not tried the dropper bottles) I bought a red and crimson. Depends on your style of course (The transparency might be an issue?) but they have a lovely consistency and the tubes look like they will be useful when empty for belts and stuff. I'm going to buy a box set (browns) next and see what they are like . . . .

Hi Leggy

Good to hear look forward to more from you with the Browns

Where did you get the paints from......a UK supplier?

Nap

Yes mate - got them from El Greco with a couple of other things.

An excellent pair and superb painting. A period I will have to delve deeper in.

As Kev says worth a delve Bob - Lots of uniforms that were virtually the same from country to country.'Uniforms' as such were a fairly recent development and followed civilian fashion.
Read a bit around the subject and found out lots of interesting stuff. Always had great respect for Marlborough as a general, but now have a new admiration for his logistical skills too  (Imagine trying to control a battle front 6 miles wide which pretty much disappeared the moment the guns started firing)

Couple of snippets -
'Secrets' were the metal skull caps worn under hats to protect the head rather than the recently used helmets

Jackboots (ie stiff leather riding boots) came about because cavalry 'charged' knee to knee and they were needed to protect the riders legs

Fascinating period
Cheers for now

Great painting job, really like the red coat. That mysterious Mr Blank obviously knows a thing or two about sculpturing.

Cheers guys

He does indeed Sergei - they're basically very simple figures in terms of detail, but beautifully posed and full of character with a real 'paint me' quality :)

I know! I am a big fan of his figures and you did justice to those two!
