Nice tip regarding the Aquarium plants and the IPA, often seen plants in pet shop I thought could be useful but thought they could not be painted.

Next step in the base (pun intended)...was to fabricate the stairs leading up to the raised level. I used balsa to build the carcass as it is very easy to work with...plus I had plenty in stock. It took some careful measuring to get the proportions looking right...and also to leave room for the figure...which will go to the right of the bottom step as you look at it.

Once I was happy with the proportions it was a matter of laying in the stonework using real stone meant for dolls houses.

With the treads done I then started to fill in the open treads and upper sides.

Will leave this to dry over night...then work on blending it all together...along with the riser's to each tread.
A quick pic of it in situ...but not in it's final place yet...as I need to do a lot more including undercoating etc.

Next stage in the steps.
First job was to introduce some wear to the treads of the steps...which I did with the Dremel...then I filled in the risers with bird grit...likewise all the gaps and cracks etc. ...once it had all dried it was a simple matter of undercoating in my usual style...based in black...then a few mist coats of white.

With this done I can now return to the main base and work on the upper level.

to be continued.......
