WIP Critique Afrika Corp Howitzer Diorama

Hi everyone.
Here is my (almost) completed howitzer diorama.

I was hoping to get some feedback from the forum so I can fix up any mistakes in the last two weeks before WASMEX.

This is my first diorama and also my first military subject at this scale. I hope you guys enjoy it.

P.S. Yes, I know I need to dirty up the wheels on the howitzer ;-) I had to take photos and upload now because with WASMEX two weeks away, I really need feedback now and am very busy with work.

oh I forgot to note the guys are glued down just yet - hence the weird position of some ;-)

For a first try it looks nice

What you can do easily to improve it is putting some sand on the wheel of your howitzer. It looks too clean. The same is true for its muzzle: too clean to have fired off. So I think you should work on such details. They are important because they put more accuracy to your piece and broke the uniformity of the colour of the howitzer.

As regards with the figures, I think there is nothing to change. For the next you paint, I just suggest you to try to outline details (buttons, laces of the boots, and so on).

Hi Scotty,

Looks very interesting mate. Can't wait to see it in the flesh.

A couple of suggestions mate.

1. The feet of your figures need to fixed to the surface securely;
2. I'd put a couple of washes of black/ brown over the front plate of the gun to replicate grime, dirt, etc.
3. More dirt and dust.

Looking good, Scotty! I agree with the others, I would just get busy with some pigments or pastels. The wheels you already know about, but they towed those guns all over the place. I would dust some pastels on the lower half of the gun shield etc too. Also, don't forget to use some pastels on the boots of your gun crew once you've fixed them. It helps make the figures look like they belong on the base, rather than just being stuck on.

Hy Bro, Nice start guys are right about dirtying up remember to rub lead pencil on edges and rivts etc to give paint wear also mix some oil paint (black and dark brown with a little talc powder ) around axles and wheel caridge for grease and sand build up for the guys remember sweat, gungrease wiped on pants etc
biggest thing bro this is a piece of equipment in use think of when you were up north and the big mining trucks etc
and go for it

hey Chris, thanks for the hint on the lead pencil. luckily I had a full pencil around just for this type of stuff ;-P
put some oil on the side of the axles. not really visible though.

ok guys, here are some updated photos. it's looking quite beat up now which is nice. Just trying to find some dry sand to mess things up as I couldn't find a pastel that matched the colour I wanted.

Looking better Scott, you could probably go a bit more with the weathering as these things were really beaten up.
