Hi all,

here are some WIP pictures of a project I am working on at the moment. These are 75mm Figures from Alexandros Models. Fantastic Sculpt and a pleasure to paint.

I was quite nervous starting them. I have not really painted larger scale figures in 15 years or so. I must admit that I really have to adjust my painting process as the shading and highlighting is far more subtler as it would be with my 28mm figures and also needs to be way smoother.

The flag will also take some considerable amount of time with all its gold embroidery on it, as it all will be shaded and highlighted ... I am not looking forward to that ... lol ;)

This time I also decided to leave most of the equipments off and paint it seperately. It will make it easier to access parts of the figures and also prevent bending or breaking while handling. I also made a decision to pin everything which will secure hands, swords, backpacks, sword sheaths a lot more ;)

I am a bit reluctant but there will be some weathering / dirtying / bloodying / muddying at the end to really give them a "at the end of Battle" kind of look.

About the Base:

I decided to create a scenic base using a round 80mm MDF Wargaming Base. It would make it easier to paint and create a muddy / grassy look for it without the danger to mess up the wooden plinth. I can paint and work on it and attach to the Wooden Plinth once finished. I actually had to do two.

As I wanted the Officer with the Flag to stand a little higher with a bit of a slope, I used on the first base Polystyrene pieces to build up some height. I also used some Hobby Filler to coat the base but realized quickly that the polystyrene was just too soft and would not offer a stable enough underground for the figures. I also could not use Superglue to attach the figures to the base as it reacts with the Polystyrene and melts it.... :(

After a little thinking I organised some 100mm cork coasters and used a few (after cutting them into size) to layer up the base and create the slope that could hold both figures very securely. I also used some proper external Wall Filler which really give the whole scene some strength too. Its perfect now. I will use a thin layer of Miliput putty on top of the filler to create some churned up soil and make it look more realistic.

I decided to use a 80mm base to fix onto a 100mm Wooden Plinth as it would offer some protection for the Flag and the Rifle / Bayonet and would not stick out over the diameter of the plinth.

Well I hope you like the look of them so far ;)

Kind regards

Sascha.

Great start Sascha! The faces on the figures and shading/highlighting of the uniforms are coming along really well.

Also, thanks for the detailed WIP information. I really appreciate someone describing what they are doing and how they are accomplishing it. It gives us all ideas for our own projects.

Well done,
Ken
