Have just a nice holiday at home doing things like modelling and watching some new Dvd's. these being Gods & Generals, Gettysberg and Glory, i think you see where i going with this.

So fired up by this films i send off for some Shenanoah figures from Historex.

I want to put the figures in scene with one corner covered by a wheatfield.

The questions that need to asked are as follows

1) in Virginia where most of the fighting in the east took place are there wheatfields ? ( i think so but would like to know for sure. I just don't like "Anoraks " who come up to you and start talking down they noses at you.)

2) Does anybody know a way to produce a realistic looking wheatfield.

any tips are welcome
and will post pictues when it is finished

Thanks
kevin

Kevin, I would get in touch with Military Miniature Warehouse (USA) they carry several lines of groundwork material and may have what you need. Good luck on the project(s).~Gary

Hi Kevin

I take it the field of wheat will be a bit trampled and messy, try B&Q, they have some of the home brand pure bristle brushes (£2.99 for 5) that are basically the correct colour, just trim to size and glue where needed

hope this mite help

Dave

in answer to your question on Virginia and wheatfields. I grew up in richmond and have been all over the battlefields. depending on your scenario and where you have ground effects please see following:

First and second manasas : Heavy grass
7 days battle: Corn, wheat and heavy grass
Fredericksburg: Grassy slopes and town areas, woods
Chancellorsville, Wilderness: Woods and grass
Spotslyvania: Grass, Woods, Corn and wheat
Cold harbor: Low wheat and grass
Petersburg: Everything.

Jacksons valley campaign fought in all types of ground covers.

Hope this helps somewhat.
