Peter, Carl thank you for your comments. At the moment i m trying to add some lights on the tunic adding some flesh on my red mix to give it a faded look. Ill post some pics when its done. The face still needs some touch ups and i cant wait to get my brushes on the black turban.

Great Start, Dimitrios . . .

Wow, Dimitrios, you're off to a great start. I have a lot of trouble trying to
paint flesh tones in acrylics but I really enjoy painting highlights and shadow
areas of folds a great deal. This looks like a figure that would be fun to do
as it has so many folds and wrinkles in the clothing.

Your face tones are just beautiful and also your painting of the red garment.
Red and black do go very well together altho, IMHO both are difficult colours
to paint. But you certainly have no problem with either color. This figure
is very eye appealing and will attract a lot of attention. Good work.

PS. Great photos as well. . .

Hardy, Marc, Rick thank you for taking the time to look and comment. Rick until recently i painted with oils only. Its not very long that i started using acrylics and the reason was excactly what you ve mentioned. They are great for cloth painting. I still use oils though for flesh and some leather parts cause their blending and satin finish is greater than acrylics. As for the figure i gotta say that the upper half (torso) is beautifull sculpted, especially the face, but when it comes to the lower part you can see some strange folds on the left lower part of the tunic which are very difficult to highlight and make them look realistic. I hope i make sense.

David, Adrian thank you for commenting. Glad you like it. Here is a liitle progress. Red garment almost finished (except wheathering which i m kind of bored to do now!!!!), hand bandage done and shadows on the turban done. Next step highlighthing black.

Five by Five Dimitrois

Right Dimitrois:

I gotcha' . . . no problem. I read you loud and clear. Or as was said years
ago in the military. . . five by five. As you can see from the responses, a lot
of us are eager to see the development of the WIP and on to the final
phases of this very eye appealing figure work.

Thank you for the explanation about painting mainly with acrylics but still
using oils for the areas such as flesh tones to get the very smooth blending
that the oils offer. As I said, I've put the oils aside, but am still not getting
the results I am after with the faces/flesh tones. But, hopefully, I will keep
at it and hopefully, at some point. . . not too far off :( I will get the
hang of if.

My good planetfigure friend, Steve Readdie has been helping me and
counseling me on this aspect of figure painting via e-mail.

Regards,

rick

Here is some progress with the kit. Turban finished in acrylics and boots in oils. Moving on to the shield.

Thank you Andreas for that original picture

Dimitrios:

I am so glad that Andreas posted that original picture on this thread. And the
main reason is because, IMHO, and I stress that this is only my opinion, the
original photo is done in white and other colours that are completely different
than the muted black and muted red that you chose for your figure. To me,
your figure is so much more striking and eye appealing because you picked
colors that attract attention. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against using white,
and many of the tunics from that period were indeed, white.

But colour really can make a lot of difference. Especially in the hands of a
fine figure painter like yourself. Great. . .

Rick
