Second round of highlights and shadows on the uniform.

Shadows were mixed from W&N Raw Umber + Sap Green + Black worked into the existing shadows wet-on-wet. Highlights mixed from Black + White + Sap Green, again applied wet-on-wet. I also used the highlight to add some general bleaching to the uniform:

Green oils take a long time to dry so I’ll leave the uniform for a while before doing a third round of highlights/shadows/tweaks.

On to the slouch hat next - cheers

Thanks again folks for the kind comments on the progress so far.

Opening moves on the slouch hat. The brim is a deceptively large amount of flat surface. To keep it from looking monotonous, I added a few random blotches of Burnt Umber roughly around the edge of the brim that were blended into the base colour (Burnt Umber + Naples Yellow):

After blending:

I’ll play around with some more weathering after this basic effect dries.

Cheers and thanks for looking in.

A bit more work on the slouch hat - blended in some dabs of Raw Umber and Burnt Umber and painted the puggree:

I’ll have a go at the King’s Liverpool Regiment badge and the other metal fittings on the hat in a bit. Will also continue to tinker with the weathering on the slouch as well.

Permanently attached the hat to the head - here’s where things sit at present:

Webbing gear up next - cheers.

Hi Brian

This has really pulled together so well , the additions like the beard work well

Clever painting of the uniform and the headwear , they work well together

Are you adding any chest hair ?

Look forward to seeing the webbing ...no doubt textures will feature

Happy benchtime

Stage 1 on the webbing: base coats and basic highlights and shadows on the Bren pouches and shoulder straps. I varied the colour combinations for khaki on each piece to keep them from looking too monotonous:

Once the base coats set up a bit, the next step will be trying to simulate the coarse canvas texture of these pieces.
