Thanks for the references, Mirof, but I've seen them. I have the 54mm Prins August molds, and unfortunately, the only cavalry is a Gardes du Corps standard-bearer, on a walking horse. And the molds from Irregular are too toy-like, even for my purposes.
Fortunately, there are some options on the market. Tradition brought out some figures of British cavalry a couple of years ago. Imrie-Risley French hussars circa 1795 with mirlitons can stand in for hussars of several armies from 1756, and the Revolutionary War British light dragoons can also pass for the 15th LD in the Allied army. Rylit has some cavalry in her catalog, too. John Eden has some of the old Rose British cavalry in his catalog, with tricorns or with miter caps. And the French outfit Art Miniature has some French cavalry figures. I even have the kits that Fusilier sells, from the old Hussar Miniatures line. But despite the length of that list of makers, the actual offering is limited by comparison.
Even Del Prado got into the act, with a single, tantalizingly well sculpted and true 54mm Prussian cuirassier officer at the Battle of Leuthen, but they produced no other Prussian SYW cavalry.
Imrie-Risley and Rose kits also offer some kitbashing possibilities, especially in the varied poses of the horses.
But it would still be nice if someone brought out some new figures, in more varied poses.
Prost!
