Dear Planeteers,
I made myself very rare here over the past Easter days - and there was a reason for that:
Tanja's (and now also my) family had scattered the escape from the Russian war of annihilation against the Ukraine to the winds - and over the Easter holidays they all slept under one roof for the first time since February 24th - here with us in Bremen!
What can I say?
It was the most beautiful Easter in many years - for all of us!
And something else:
Our marriage in Denmark last January is finally recognized in Germany and we were able to choose a common name!
We have decided to take Tanja's birth name. Although she was born in a village in Bashkiria, her father was a real Don Cossack from Rostov and a highly decorated officer during the Great Patriotic War...:
That's why my name is now "Martin Antonenko" - I just couldn't resist the temptation to bear this man's name!
I am very grateful to my wonderful Tanja for her approval and consider it an honor...

"Rivers of Blood"...
On April 20, 1968, British Health Secretary Enoch Powell holds a controversial speech at Birmingham...
...in which he warns against further immigration of citizens from the Commonwealth countries to Great Britain.
Powell calls for an immediate stop to "unchecked immigration" and warns of civil war-like conditions in the British Isles if this does not happen.
He uses a quote from the Roman epic poet Publius Vergilius Maro (better known as "Vergil") for clarification and rhetorical accompaniment: "...that the Tiber foams with much blood"
In the British press, Powell's speech is thereafter simply called the "Rivers of Blood Speech".
Someone notices that the minister gave his "Rivers of Blood Speech" on Hitler's birthday of all days - Powell denies having known this, but no one buys it! - and now the political waves are really rising!
At this time - as is well known - many British fascists like Colin Jordan...
...and John Tyndall (later leader of the "National Front" and founder of the "British National Party", left in the following picture) still celebrating birthdays in honor of Hitler...:
With this speech, Powell's career is over!
British Prime Minister Edward Heath...
...fires the minister from his cabinet a day later - and Powell will never again have a senior post in party or government.
He died at London on February 8, 1998.
