Hi Simon, Mario, Nigel, Ski (I'm rucking as quick as I can mate;)) & Ken,
That you for your continued support and praise, I am humbled. Thoroughly enjoying this.

I have finished and sited the two kneeling figures and tomorrow I will start work on the next two.
cheers
Richie

Really looking good, I like how the figures are showered with rubble and dust. Your man on the bren had best be careful, I know he's holding the folding bipod but he's perilously close to losing a lot of skin, the weapon gets hot around there! Looks great and suitably 'aggressively Airborne'. Love it.

Cheers Simon

Looking good Richie, nicely painted and a real sense of urgency in the way you've made the fella carrying the PIAT ammo.

Cheers Simon

Gets better every time I look……great modelling and great representation of good story telling…..

Agree there

Richie

You’ve been really busy on this

The figures look really good when all groundworked into place ......that a lot of rubble Richie!!

Do like the poses and the variations in hairstyle and the interactions between the figures

Thanks for the updates

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Nap

One other thing I’d like to point out is the quality of the foot planting. This is really important as it gives a proper sense of gravity/strength/grounding. The feet all look spot on as they hit the ground in all manner of poses.

Hi Simon, Mario, Malc, Dave, Ski, Javier & Nap,
Thank you all again.(y)

I have made some real progress with nearly 12 figures finished. I have got the 2 done in the second storey windows and just about got
the 4 on the balcony done. I will need to paint the balcony barricade next before siting these figures.
I also need to make a set of steps up to the balcony and a couple of other bits.
Still really enjoying this.
cheers

Hi Steve,
Thank you mate, enjoyed our chat the other day.
I have finished the 4 figures for the balcony.
I have decided to pull back in the Para with the captured MP40, so I have made a table, some more sandbags and the steps
to the balcony. I will let these dry out over night and tomorrow I will make the radio set and start work on the balcony.
cheers
Richie

I've been a bit sporadic on the internet for a while, but it's good to see your progressing on this Richie. Arnhem is one of my favourite subjects, and I like what your doing here. I'ts also getting my own mojo flowing again, I have a project that I started a long time ago, I've build the Jeep and 6Pdr gun, I'ts going to be a diorama of the first troops coming of the landing zone at the Ginkelse Heide. I've also got a couple of 1/16 figures which I want to put together in a diorama. There's also the huge figure of Sgt Ansell to do, but that needs a lot of remidial work to get ready for paint. But first I'm going to concentrate on the "Bloodied, but unbowed" bust which I've started painting. Just waiting for the base from Richard to arrive.

Too many Para's in my stash...

I would change the rope that the para is using to haul the PIAT ammo through the floor to something thinnner, it looks to thick for rope that would be carried around (like the toggle ropes), or what would be around in a house or garden shed.
Can you add a small wall section to the balcony, at the corner of the excisting wall, to create a visual "outside wall", to make the balcony an outside feature? At the moment it looks a little bit like the balcony was added after the (corner) wall of the house was destroyed.. if that makes sense.
I may have missed this earlier, but what are your plans for painting the bags in the windows/barricades. I would paint most of them fairly brightly, as pillows/cushions/piles of shetts etc, because they used mainly what they could find in the houses, rather than sandbags.
Thius is shown very well in the movie A Bridge to Far, when 2Para first get to Arnhem, and start to prepare the houses they comandeer. Smash all the windows, and pile all the furniture and furnishings into all openings. I do like how they apologise to the howm owners son: "I'm terribly sorry, but you do know there's a war on.."

Following more closely.

Hi Henk,
I totally agree about the rope, I've been looking for something more suitable for the last few days, even when I painted it it went funny. I'm trying to something natural that I only need to apply a wash of inks. I was going to make toggle ropes but what I had was too thick. I will redo this as I'm not happy with it either.
I understand what you are saying about the wall, I was trying to keep it open so it could be viewed 360 to see the reverse of the figures, but again I will cut something and see how it looks, an easy retrofit if it works out OK.
It was on off the shelf house, if I had built it from scratch the construction would have been totally different. My wanting to get on with it was probably the biggest factor, plus the wall sections were only about £12. I would have spent 5 times that on materials and probably, had no figures painted as it would have taken me ages to build the house I ideally wanted.
I was going to buy and make some furniture, again being lazy I went without. I totally agree with all your comments by the way.

I haven't painted anything for me in over two and a half years so I struck whilst the iron was hot. I've got five more of these Market Garden diorama's to do so.........to quote another line from the film "Your'e late you lazy B******'s but we'll forgive you"
Don’t be late jumping in next time(y).
cheers
Richie
