WIP Critique Ashigaru bust

Hi there, here is an ashigaru bust in I have been working on for the past couple months. It's a rather big piece, the head measured 32mm. And I will also sculpt his right arm, lifting his jingasa.
One dilemma is, you see the marker I drew along the back, I am still thinking if I should cut out the part underneath. I did a mock up of the arm and the jingasa, something didn't look right with the back armour. Can't pinpoint what though.

It's still a very much wip. Looking at the blown up image, there are a lot of place I need to sand and patch up though.
