Hi Phil

Now with a bit of colour it's really coming together ...the moustache is really good as is beard shaping

Perhaps when cast the distinctive ' tasche would have been better as a separate WM piece

Look forward to more from you on this

Happy benchtime

In between placating the wife, who has just returned from Christmas grocery shopping - I got a couple of hours in on the General, this session starting the face. I did the eyes first, using AV acrylics - they are sculpted different sizes and IMO too close together but I'm not complaining:rolleyes:

- and the first paint on the beard:

It will look better once I get some paint on the kepi. Once the face is dry I will add some detail to the wrinkles and taper the moustaches a bit more on the tips. Day off tomorrow starting a plastic kit while the oil dries.

Hi Phil

Good move placating the lovely lady

Really do like the way this is going , fleshwork is looking good and will no doubt look better once you've at least got the headwear basecoated

Look forward to the moustache tapering

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Looking better with each step! Excellent work!

After Nap's take on the man and now yours, I'm going to confine mine to the grey army and wait until the day Pavol Offo has a go at sculpting him, Mr Girault having sunk very low on my favorite sculptors' list.

I wonder what old Paul Rollet would have thought about placating the lady with Christmas groceries ...

cheers,

Pierre

Many thanks Pierre. I agree Offo would get a lot closer to the look of this man. Maybe he's reading this?. I think GG is good at detail but he missed the target with this one.
I suspect Gen Rollet would have charmed the lady - he looks the type:LOL:

Back on this one today for a couple of hours. This session I got the final bits done on the face (may revisit the mouth area yet). I also blocked in the kepi colours:
Rolkep 1.jpgRolkep 5.jpgRolkep 2.jpg

Next session I will get to grips with the oakleaf pattern and tidy up the braiding. Kepi colours shown are Vallejo Flat Red for the top, and a mix of Vallejo Black Grey and Dark Blue, ratio 80/20. Braid and oakleaves blocked in with Vallejo Trainer Yellow and Buff 50/50

Hi Phil

Nice updates on this , neat basecoating on the oakleaves , look forward to seeing those finished...took more a coupke of "hours" ...lol

The work on the beard works well like the tones on this ...will you do anything else on it ?

Look forward to more but for now have a great Christmas Day and stay safe

I've managed a couple of sessions over Christmas and am now calling the head finished:
Rollet head fin 2.jpgRollet head fin 3.jpgRollet head fin 4.jpg

When it is planted on the body it should look OK. I am relatively pleased with it but there are several issues. Nap, did you notice the misalignment of the lacing on the kepi crown? The vertical bars on the LH side are too far towards the back, so they misalign with the knot on that side.
I undercoated the body today and will start on the medals next.

Phil

Hi Phil

That looks great love the flesh work , your right ref the lacing l although it's not too noticable on mine ..I think !

Your oakleaves look good

When I dry tested the head it looked okay but seemed to be a bit off when painted !

Look forward to the torso

Happy benchtime

Thanks Kev. I've taken a fair bit of resin off the neck joint and out of the neck cavity, mainly to try to get the head to sit a little lower. I've got several busts in the pipeline but I'm gonna do something with legs:eek: next!

Hi Phil

I did the same on mine , this is a fine subject just wished there was less to do to sort it out ....look forward to more on this and the legged ones of course !

Got a couple of hours in yesterday and today, starting on the General's body and gongs. Wasn't helped by the fact that my main light source decided to give up the ghost (I commandeered the mem 'sahib's sewing light which didn't go down too well:eek:)
So, here are some dodgyvision pics of progress.

I'll probably re-visit the tunic as I'm not happy with the colour. Given that I can sort out the errors and omissions on the medals I should have this one done by 2021. Then onto something with LEGS!

Phil

Excellent progression!

Did you notice that Mr Girault forgot the lacing on the inside of the crown?

Happy continuation,

cheers,

Pierre

Hi Pierre
Many thanks. Yes, I spotted that. I may attempt to rectify it depending on how the rest comes out. It's not the only thing he forgot:(. TBH It is a useful painting exercise for me as a newcomer to busts.

Hi Phil

A good coupke of hours spent there I reckon be interesting to see how far you go with the uniform colour

Nice start on the bling

Loving life on the edge as well using the venerable sewing light !

Thanks for sharing

I added mine .....thanks to Pierre advising ......once I had painted it ! ...not ideal so I repainted it .....muttering ....lol

Nap

I probably will add it. I've a mind to use Slaters plastic rod heat formed to fit the crown and carefully flattened off on a sheet of wet n'dry. It could end in tears of course, but I'll post some pics of it. There's a moral here for future bust purchases...
