Good comments Dan.
Yeah, I think it is the lighting, these are in progress pics of the display. However I tend to go with collectors who know their stuff more than museums, having worked at museums in exhibits I know how things are fudged or represented with stand ins well. I do appreciate quality displays and pro photography, and I think the Emperor's Coat is a fantastic book (I've seen it).
I thought I'd share the wealth of this collector as he's one of the authorities on this stuff. The uniforms may look off, but they are authentic, and I do think the lighting is the culprit.
That forum I linked to is attached to mosin-nagant.net, and depsite all the books and publications on Russian and Finnish militaria, the guy who owns that board is THE world's acknowledged English speaking expert on Mosin Nagants and Russian/Finn militaria. It is a great site, because those who are serious about uniforms, militaria and weapons are also on that site. Wait until you see the purpose of this display. It will put anything before it to shame, I'm sure.
Thy added some more pics today...
Oh, and this is not my stuff, not my message board, I just have found great benefit from hangin' around those guys. There's also a thread there on the Armenian revolt if you like that era.
