Hi to all,
I'm in the process of painting a French knight during the Battle of Azincourt, 1415. However, I have very limited material by Osprey and it really doesn't show much Heraldic information. Can anyone suggest a website or a fully illustrated book dedicated to the period of Azincourt?

Burne A.H. The Agincourt War: A military history of the latter part of the hundred years war from 1369 to 1453, Eyre & Spottiswoode, London, 1956

Hibbert, C. Agincourt, B.T. Batsford Ltd, London, 1964

Bennett M., Burn J. Agincourt 1415: Triumph Against the Odds, Osprey Publishing Ltd., Oxford, 1991

Oman C.W.C. The Art of War in the Middle Ages AD 378-1515, Cornwall University Press, London, 1953

Rothero, Christopher, The Armies of Agincourt, Osprey Men at Arms Series, Ospey Publishing, London,1981

My suggestion is find the rolls (list of people there) of some of the participants at the battle and then look up individual blazons and heraldry. There were enough just from the French Royal Family to populate several vignettes worth of heraldry.

Hope this info helps.

Sam,

Ref. no. 14 (both volumes) will provide all you would want to know. . . and then some! And the information, more importantly, is reliable.

The coa's of some of the survivors who took the field again post-Agincourt may be found here.

I frankly don't know if there is a list of the French combatants at Agincourt on line, as there is for the English.

If you have names of individuals but no coa's, there are a number of on-line armorials that can be consulted, but chances are there will be no indication if those were the arms borne by a given individual on that day/at that time--and you will have to be able to "translate" the blazon.

HTH!

Dear Augi,
the French figurine club Le Briquet had published an excellent b ooklet with the heraldic of the French knights at Azincourt.

The adress is: Le Briquet, 2 Cloitre Saint Pierre le Puellier, F 45000 Orleans. The prize is around 60 $.

Best greatings from Germany
