Hello I was wondering if some of you may suggest a brand of Putty for securing modes for transport in carry cases to shows. I find the blue tac does horrible for me. and I noticed other people using a yellow/cream color which looked to work rather nice.

I use one called 'The Museum Putty', and am very pleased with it. Its a neutral or crème color, and I picked it up at 'The Container Store'.

I had some called 'Simply Tacky' that I just threw away because within a year it became useless. It hardened up but still had a soft center. Kind of like an old Fig Newton. It was still in its sealed package o_O!

I use blu tac and never had a problem. But then again I haven't been to many shows and you could count the models that I would consider worthy of showing on one finger and still have a spare finger left once the counting's done.

Hi JWM.
I meet a lot of modelers than use wood boxes with two or three planks inside, like a shelves. Then they drill the planks and every base of their miniatures, and glue a nut at the hole of the base. With a screw the base is united to the plank and don't move during transport. It's a little laborious and heavy, so i don't like. Blu tack doesn't like me at all, so i use velcro straps to fix my bases to a plastic toolbox.

I usually use Blue Tack without any problem, I find the white too sticky. If you have difficulty removing it then just take a piece of blue tack and dab it on the piece you are trying to remove. Blue Tack is good for removing Blue Tack.

Having said that the safest method is screwing your models into a wooden transporter. Alternatively using Velcro is also pretty safe as long as you ensure that the base layer is well secured.

There is a product available here in the UK [think it is from MDP, but not sure] consisting of small magnets [5mm diameter?] and magnetic sheets. The round magnets are glued to the underside of the base and the sheets are stuck to the bottom of your carry case. Initial set up might be a bit bothersome [cutting sheets to size and applying] but once done......! Bigger and heavier pieces probably need more magnets, and I dont know their limitations. 4 magnets to the bottom of a 1/10 scale bust [on wooden plinth] works for me. Smaller scales may not need so many. They are inexpensive and work well.

What exactly is your problem with blue tac Ian?
It doesn't stick, sticks too much, ....?

I use screws to fix my figures for transport and feel very secure with that. I can keep my transport box upside down if needed and nothing will happen. It takes a bit more time to pack and unpack, but what's a few minutes in this hobby...
