Every now and then one has a very memorable day. For me, today was one of them. I had the privelege of spending three hours with Tony Dawe over a few glasses of good Aussie reds, talking about our hobby with examples from his cabinet of outstanding figures and busts he has painted. Just to view them was a treat.
With great patience and generosity Tony described in detail his approach to painting, including a demonstration of pin painting and the various techniques he uses, and encouraged me to use acrylics. After speaking with him I feel much more confident to try them. For a complete amateur like me talking with such a talented painter was pure gold, and more than I ever expected. My intention was to catch up with him after 18 years since we last spent time together in Perth - Western Australia not Scotland - and share a friendship that has grown through PF.
Then with incredible generosity he insisted I accept a half figure of his of a Vietnam SASR digger that is truly superb. To say I was very humbled and completely blown away by this truly generous, and for me a very special gift, is an understatement. Words cannot express how truly grateful and thrilled I am with it Tony - your generosity knows no bounds. I will treasure it, and it will have pride of place in my cabinet as an example to aspire to.
What a wonderful family PF is, with talented people like Tony willingly sharing their skills with amateurs and encouraging us to improve our painting. That's the way a hobby should be, and then to be given a truly beautiful example of their talent!!
BIG BIG thank you Tony - and I will try acrylics.
From a very grateful Chris
