Hi Chris,
I hope you and all the family are well mate.
Thought it was about time I chipped in on this superb piece.
You have captured something in clay, especially the face that is very reminiscent of the work of Harry Payne.
If Harry Payne could have sculpt, then he would have sculpted this in exactly the same style.
I cannot think of a more fitting compliment.

Forgive my ignorance, but I needed to look up who Harry Payne was. I am very humbled that you're comparing my work to his. As I have said before Richie, I'm just wanting to improve from one sculpting project to the next. Hoping I contribute to the hobby in some way so artists such as yourself get some joy from my work

It's been a little while from my last post. I've been making some progress, but needed to review the button's.
I decided that whilst the idea to create a curve by using a curved template was a way around it, using epoxy wasn't the best option. The epoxy didn't have a nice crisp edge like a button, so it wasn't going to be convincing enough.
So I decided to go back to the brass idea, but this time use a hard epoxy putty called Geomfix from Sylcreative as the template. I then used a larger diameter to punch out the button's. Then using a metal round stylus which I had used to make the template in the first place, punched the shape into the brass which produced a nice curved button shape. I think it's definitely an improvement, what do you guy's think?

I've added those brass buttons on to the torso along with some added details to the tunic and some extra body around the shoulder and straps. I'll now get back to the plaid.

It's only a shame you have him in what looks like a modern knife pleated kilt. For the 42nd it should be a 5 to 7 yard box pleated kilt. Regimental highland dress is a minefield for the unwary. Only the 92nd at that time had knife pleated kilts.

I agree it certainly can be, and I'm by no means an officianado on this subject. I'm only going by the references and information I've been given. As far as I've been made aware, the knife pleat is correct.
