Here's a blast from the past... these are old Historex conversions I did back in 1981/2. The mounted officer represents a Capitano di Saluzzo 1854; Milliput and silver wire coat, stage hair tail on nag.
The tambour running from the dog was more a mix n' match of appropriate parts. Scenery scratch-built. P1000931.JPG028.JPG

I was 9 years old in 1981 and you sir already paint with the quality that both works show.(y)
I love the captain ridding the horse but the other is very well done to.

Cheers,
Pedro.

Pure old school! Excellent stuff to show us young uns on how to model figures!...:). Rgds Victor

I remember the drummer and dog and tried to find the relevant article, but without success.
However, in MM Feb. 1981, I did come across another of 'your off-beat conversions' (wording from MM's index), called "Le Riboteur" (a drunken chasseur a cheval). I enjoyed re-reading it.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks for the reference Andrew - I just read the article and then dug out the Mil Mod 1981 Manual with the "Reveille" article!

Alan if you have colour pictures of these two pieces I'd be most grateful if you could post them here - believe me it would make my day.

Cheers

It used to be my highlight too but now I only get the iPad version as the focus is tanks, much fewer figure and historical articles. In my cave I've every issue from Jan 1976 to June 2013 when my last subscription ended appropriately with the front page headline "end of the line". Since iPad only version as it cheaper.

However in 1994 "Figurines" started and that is my true love today though I stray and get "Soldatini" on my iPad and I've started to get "Figure Painter" too.

And finally Alan you're work from my late teens should definitely all by photographed and published here!!!

Cheers

Ha, that's a Herculean task, Huw, I'll see what can be done. I took quite a long break from modelling in the 1990's,/early 2000's, and I was astounded and amazed when I returned on how this wonderful hobby had progressed. My old stuff is quaint, and far from perfect by today's high standards. The scratch built masterpieces we are seeing by the new generation of modellers/sculptors just blows me away.
It will be amusing to post some of my old work, nontheless:whistle:;) It's very gratifying that folk are interested.

Hi Alan

We all have breaks of various durations... don't underestimate your old stuff, it's still inspirational and of a standard as good as today! If you get the chance to post a few more pics it would be appreciated by more than you think.

Cheers
