I've just about finished ,just a bit of fine tuning and some work on the groundwork.I left off some of the parts i.e. plumes and extra straps for the banner as i was looking for a war weary look.
The photo's aren't too good as i had problems with the lighting

Hi Brian

You have done a first rate job of this. One of the best examples I have seen yet:cool:

Cheers
Tommi

Brian,
Another masterpiece finished. I really like the way the metalwork came out.
And that banner, wowww....
The skintone's are also a beauty.
Wish my oilpainting is gonna look that way.

seems absolutely brilliant to me, can you please post us your receipt about how you paint irons? please, please, these are the best irons I have seen so far, do you use printers ink? or citadel or vallejo alcohol base and than wash with oils? man its gorgeous!!!

Thanks for all your kind comments, much appreciated. To those who asked here's how i did the armour and the leather. It's all fairly staightforward really.
For the armour i clean the bare metal with steel wool and apply a mixture of lamp black and burnt umber oils undiluted onto all the metal areas and then just dab off with kitchen paper towel leaving a skin of oils on the metal.I then used a large flat brush to gently stroke upwards on the scale armour to take of more oils from the tips of the scales and did the same with the arm armour but in a downward motion to take of some more oil from the edges. After it was totally dry i then enhanced the deep recesses in the armour with neat lamp black and blended it in.
The leather was undercoated with Humbrol 93 using 2 thin coats. When dry apply raw umber oil paint unthinned and then take off with a flat brush leaving a skin of oil ,allowing the undercoat to show through the oils. When dry outline with raw umber and lamp black and blend it in.I painted on the top edges of the belts etc, with a mixture of Humbrol Natural Wood and Flesh.
On this particular figure i applied a second coat of raw umber (when the first coat is fully dry) as i wanted the leather a bit darker but it's a matter of choice.
On reading back the above it all seems a bit long winded but the method i use is very staightforward and fairly easy to do.

Fantastic work, Brian! Just fantastic! You've achieved a very nice harmony in your color scheme. The metals are outstanding. I like the deep red of the banner - would you mind sharing your formula?

Jason
Hi Jason
I undercoated the banner with Humbrol 93 and Humbrol Flesh and when dry i applied Rowney's Madder Brown and brushed it off until i was left with a thin coat of oil i used naples yellow for the highlights and lamp black for the shading.
