Finished the sculpting of the chindit. I need to make a start on the groundwork and some japanese items which will be at his feet.

Please let me know what you think, I've gone 'blind' from looking at him for so long! :)

Cheers

Matt

Cheers Jay

He's big, around 150/160mm maybe a shade more, I'm told thats' around 1:12th scale? I usually work in 1:35th but wanted to create a piece with size impact.

Matt

Matt, its an absolutely fantastic piece of sculpting, but the first thing that jumped out at me was the size of the brim of the slouch hat.

It may just be the angle of the photo, but it looks a bit large to me, more like a western cowboy hat than a slouch hat.

Please don't hate me for pointing this out, but I know what you mean about going blind after looking at something for so long. I think the brim could be trimmed a little bit, but otherwise it looks spot on.

Do you intend to release this commercially?? If so, I'll buy one. That's the best compliment I can give.

Tony, I think you might be right. I'll check the figure and my references tonight, although I don't fancy trying to shave any off it, I dropped it the other day and the front broke off! Very fragile!

This isn't intended to be a commercial piece, I haven't approached any manufacturers and none have approached me. Its actually an exercise in large scale sculpting for another piece I have planned. However, I'd like to enter it into some competitions and you never know what this might lead to?

I'm extremely flattered that you would be prepared to part with your money!

Cheers

Matt

Gidday Matt,
he looks bl**dy good. The left hand looks good and tells the others to lay low.Which to me tells the story.Hope you find someone to cast him soon.
All the best .

Matt, its an absolutely fantastic piece of sculpting, but the first thing that jumped out at me was the size of the brim of the slouch hat.

Tony, I checked the figure last night and to be honest the brim looks better 'in the flesh' and when compared to the hat in my collection (I have three, all with differing brims!) it actually looks ok so rather than risk any damage I think I'll leave as is. It'll create a talking point if nothing else. If anything, I should've made it more 'floppy' but that'll have to do for the next one.

Thanks to you all for your comments, I was at a stage where I needed a boost to get me on to the next level.

Cheers all

Chindit

Hi Matt
A lovely peice of work mate!!!
However, IMHO, the left arm looks a tad long also the fingers but that could just be the photo angle!!!
One thing that does hit me is that the trousers should be a bit baggier!! Maybe with a few repairs/rips!!!
I really like this Matt, very well done!!!
All the best
Pete

Cheers Peter

The arm is ok, it must be the camera angle so I'm going to leave it. I agree with you about the trousers, they've been troubling me for some time, I might come back to these and add some more 'bagginess' I've set the figure to one side for a bit whilst a I deal with some work issues then I'll have another look and see how I feel about them.

Overall I'm happy with this figure as it was only meant to be a 'guinea pig' and I've learnt a hell of a lot which is always invaluable before moving on to my next project.
