Better pictures. Epaulettes are now done - same paint as other silver lace. Base raw umber; highlight parchment; wash with diluted raw umber ink; high highlight with white flecks sparingly; washed with diluted silver ink.

Really coming together Colin, looking fantastic!!!
What is the name of the facing colour? It's very different from the usual "same ol' same old"... I like it.

Look forward to the final presentation

Great job, Colin! I like your painting style! A lot to learn! (y)
Now, that the epaulettes are done, it looks to me that the figures right epaulette is bigger. Maybe is just me or the photo angle.
Keep us posted with the progress! I love watching your work!
Cheers,
Zeno :)

Probably is slightly bigger Zeno. I sculpted it in a hurry so the fringes are a wee bit different between the two epaulettes too. It shows more in photos than in real life.

You may notice that in experimenting with Vallejos I tend to do more hatching (i.e. fine lines with diluted paint to build up an effect or hue) rather than blending. Its different than the Spanish/Italian acrylics text book style but I prefer to do my own thing sometimes.

Hi Colin
This is a superb paint job and looking great.
I am tempted at this figure, did you say you textured the crested plume, very interested as it all looks superb.

This is one of the reasons why I like the achieved effects. It is another way to create texture that the one that I'm used to. I'm following closely, Colin! Very good stuff! Thanks a lot for deciding to go for an sbs on this subject! (y)

Thanks very much. No all I changed was his contra epaulette, making it into a full epaulette. His plume is as cast.

Thanks Zeno - I always wonder if I am posting too many updates. Its hard to decide exactly when to take an in progress shot.

Cheers

Very nice... Doe-skin breeches?

yup - only the best. I will be adding a couronne de fer chevalier award too.

As he is in palace/parade dress, I am going to put him on an ornate hand painted carpet. I have several photos of authentic Napoleonic ones in Osenat auction catalogues. Some are stupidly complex in design. I will need to decide how ornate to go.

Colin

Good luck with that... Have you done much freehand pattern work? Some examples I've seen are mindboggling. There's an example somewhere on here of a Red Lancer standing on just such a carpet, WOW.
I think it'll look great with this figure.
Make sure you take lots of SBS pics of the process.
