Here is Thunderbird Miniatures 1/9th bust of a Buffalo Soldier that I finished recently. This is my first bust and it was a joy to paint. I believe the sculpt was done by Mike Good. The troopers face and overcoat were done in oils with everything else in Andrea and Vallejo acrylics. As a further note, I used Andrea's white and blue sets for the scarf and uniform shirt respectively. I found them helpful given the novice that I am in using acrylics. The reason for the 'well almost', is that when this shot was taken, I had as yet to finish and place the corn cobb pipe. The only mod done to the sculpt was the addition of a moustache and small beard beneath the lower lip using Kneadatite or what I believe my amigos in Blighty call Duro. Hope you all don't mind the background, its one of the kitchen mats. Looking forward to your comments folks.

Thanks Mike. Yes, I wanted this guy to be a tad different, so I looked a bunch of period photos of Buffalo Soldiers and found moustaches and goatees were somewhat fashionable (and allowed), amongst the troops back then.

Howdy Steve, thanks for the praise!

Hey Roger, you guys are right, there is something about his expression that says he's content about something!

Great work Joe. Beautifully painted.
The addition of the facial hair has worked really well and it suits the piece.
I reckon by adding that moustache you've got a really good likeness of Muddy Waters.

Well I'll be....... Now I'm very curious what Mike Good had in mind when he sculpted this guy. Thanks for your post Mark, you've got a sharp eye!

I was sculpting Muddy Waters. The likeness is not spot on, though, because it was his expression i was after. Your painting has captured it perfectly! Cool!! It's the Hoochie Coochie Man!
