Superb work. I love that ‘worn-in’ red jacket - so hard to do without it starting to look pink. The glass bottle is a great touch. Something about enamel paint that just seems to give a better look for glass than anything else I’ve tried.

How do you go about painting the jacket piece by piece? I’d be worried I’d never get the paint to match if I was to leave that sleeve unpainted and do it days or weeks later.

Thanks Mart! To be honest I keep the mixtures simple, just scarlet 60 and a spot of brown 173 as the base, then flesh added for the highlights. That way I can keep the different areas pretty close. The final weathering is an acrylic glaze of vallejo flat red and beige red which gives a good washed out effect and can adjust any areas that need a tweak to look the same.

That's the theory anyway! It's working out OK so far.......

Regards Pete

It really is a great finish. Good old Humbrol - I’m sure they’d sell 10x more paint if they swapped the old time out for something more practical.

I love the paint and the smell / tins for the nostalgia but everyone I open one it feels like playing with fire - just one drop spilled and it’ll make its way across the whole bench and anything on it!

On another note - what camera are you using? The large high-res photos are excellent.

Cheers Mart. I've tried oils and had a brief foray into Rose acrylics back in the day, but I do like enamels...just frustrated with the new formulations, much more viscous I find and I seem to waste a lot more in the tin. They're also quite hard to find where I live, slthough the local garden centre in Ditchling has started to stock the tinlets. Result!
The camera us just the one on my Samsung phone.

Regards Pete

Superb work. I too am amazed that you can get such consistency of colours across so many painting sessions!

Thanks Nigel! It seems to work OK as I keep things simple. Some acrylic glazes help if there is too much variation in tone. Luckily I am replicating early 19th century vegetable dyes so a little inconsistency is probably forgivable anyway. Regards Pete.

When will the regimental lace end........!!

Morning gang. Managed to tick off the cartridge box on the to do list and now starting work on the right sleeve. Just done a basic sketch of the shadows and highlights at the moment. It will be neatened up and faded in to match the rest in due course. All comment welcome! Regards PeteView attachment 472396 View attachment 472397 View attachment 472398

Great job! Have you thought about placing a plant under his feet? I am developing photo-etched materials for detailing dioramas and can tell you more if you are interested.
