Hi all. I've been giving this project some serious thought over the past couple of weeks as its very important to me that I get it right. Before I can give the figures any attention I felt I needed to get a good idea of what the base would be like. I'm referring to the base as the 'set' from now on as that is really what it is, with the figure of Kate ter Horst playing centre stage with a supporting cast of wounded soldiers and medics. I'm unsure at this time if I should include any of Kate's children in this piece?
As the Ter Horst house was actually the old vicarage next door to the Oosterbeek church (sometimes known as Lonsdale Church), and Kate would read passages from the bible to wounded and dying soldiers, I wanted to capture some of this in the sculpt without it being a notably religious piece. So I've designed the 'set' as a series of three arches; one for the back wall of the cellar steps, one for the cellar wall and one for the floor. I hope the arch reflects the doors and windows of the church whilst still giving me the elements of a cellar. Anyhow, click on the image if you want to see a larger version and watch this space for the next 'installment'. Cheers. Matt
