Does anyone have experience using Durham's Water Putty as a base for groundwork? Would you recommend using it or would you recommend a difference material instead? Thanks.
Rick

I used to use it. You can get quite a convincing coarse soil effect by pouring a wet layer then sprinkling a layer of dry powder on top. The powder absorbs the water from the poured layer. Let it dry completely then brush off the excess powder. You’ll be left with a nice soil texture.
But now I use acrylic texture gel. I mix in paint, sand, small roots, twigs, static grass, etc. I find I have a lot more control over the groundwork with this method.
Hope this helps,
Gerald

I use an old toothbrush to texture the putty for groundwork.
Just stipple lightly for a good effect.

If I am doing a large area, I will often us Durham's mixed with Cell-u-Clay (about 50/50). It gives the Durham's some resistance to chipping that Durham's alone doesn't have. Also, I like the texture.
