Now that some of my camera problems have been solved (Thanks Anders & Quang for his article) the pictures are better and will get even better as I find the right light arrangement. This figure is a great figure, clean detail, sculpting is smooth. I spent 5 hours painting in the stripes this afternoon and thanks to Joe Burton and his suggestion of flat coat prior to the stripe painting, was able to swipe with thinner and get them pretty even. More to come after I blend and shade the green stripes and highlight them

Guy,

The pictures are looking better and I like the way that you painted the stripes. I am sure that Mr Burton is happy with what he told you.

Hey Guy,

No problem. No matter who said what it is the good job that you have done with the figure that matters. I am looking forward to seeing more stripes and taratns in the future. (y)

Joe

I may be doing one or the other very soon.

Looking mighty good. Makes me want to pull mine out the closet and start immediately. But work comes first, so he'll have to wait a few weeks, months, years, decades,... :(

Please keep showings us your progress,

Gino

Guy,

Nice job all the way around, especially the flesh tones. I've always liked this figure but all that bare skin is a bit daunting to me at this point in time. I look forward to the photo when you're done with him.

I spent 4 hours with a 10/0 brush blending and shading the green stripes. The base color was Medium green with the deep folds done in Black green and the top folds done in light green. The blending with thinner was to blen the lines between the black green and light green. Tomorrow I will lighten the light green with white and drybrush accross the top folds giving it more highlight. The following step will be a very light drybrush with white to both colors.

That's looking great Guy, I am interested to see the finished piece.

a 10/0 brush ?, I know them well ..... start to get unusable after about 10 strokes.

Thanks guys,
I have enjoyed doing this figure and am now doing some research into what to do with his shield. Haven't found alot out there and the other painters who have done this figure tend to paint his sheild with a plain color without any designs. Will keep looking to see what I can find for sheild designs.

Thanks again,
Guy

Guy,

Excellent work on the stripes! I've yet to tackle the trousers on my Vercingetorix so I shall be searching pF at some point to glean as many tips as I can get!

For the shield, I've always liked the Celtic "Zoomorphic" designs (my avatar is an example) though I'm not sure how historically accurate that would be.
Another option (possibly more accurate too) would be a "key pattern", I have a few books on the subject @ home, I'll have a look tonight & scan you some examples if you'd like? (the Mathematics of it can get a little daunting but for our purposes probably not really neccesary!!)

Cheers

Simon

Thanks Simon,
I would appreciate anything you would find and scan. I would like something basically simple. I recieved my Time Machine's Vercingetorix a couple of weeks ago and may give him a start soon.......It's an awesome figure.

Guy,

Yesterday I posted a review of a book on MedRen that is very useful for typical Celtic art motifs. These motifs could also be applied to a shield. There are very, very few actual shield motifs found in the artifacts, but I know of one good example. I can sketch it for you, though it predates your fig by several hundred years, it's a common motif. Let me know if you want more info.

Hello Shane,
I saw that posting and the link you posted as well. I will go back and save that link and check it out. Appreciate you reminding me... (y)
