A bit of advice please.
Can anyone direct me to a site or blog where Ican get some info/directions on creating fantasy skin colours?
I'm ok with Orc green but I'm looking for other colours. I've tried but being an oil painter as I blend say a blue skin it starts to look like a 'regular' skin that has been painted blue rather than being blue skin...... I hope that makes sense.
Cheers

Depends on the race really. Humans are normal skin tones. Elves are usually more pale than humans. Dwarves a bit more rugged than humans. There's nothing really set in stone though.

In my opinion the subtle variations in color are more important to getting that skin-effect. Maybe you try to work in a contrasting color like orange in places (could be on the ears, elbows, under the eyes, etc) or something like hints of purple in the cheeks or on the nose. Take a look at some of the 2-D fantasy work out there. Paul Bonner is a great place to start. His orcs had all sorts of different skin tones. Here's one for example:

Many thanks for the info guys.
Being unable to use magnification to help paint detail as I wait for my eye to fully recover I'm putting in some planning prior to adding colour to Galapagos Miniatures Seige Giant. (superb casting and a bargain from Tommi).

It's the skin tone on the giant I want to do something with and definitely something out of my comfort zone. What I'm planning is a two tone effect, similar to a cross between kagemushas Taurus http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/war-of-the-zodiac-taurus.47333/ and Abyssal Warlord http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/im-back-scale-75-abyssal-warlord.63999/
Cheers

That bust has to be such a test on ...'what colours do I mix?'

I've been teetering on purchasing that one too :)
