I suppose we could take the positive "glass half full" view that in the grand scheme of things, 56 issues isn't a bad innings for a magazine dedicated to model figures.

Back in 2010, a new bilingual (Italian and English) figure mag called QTM was launched that was of nice quality and looked very promising.

It lasted all of 2 (that's two) issues.

It is a shame. I never got any of these mags as like others have said the translations have been terrible. I will grab some now as I'm a bit more of an accomplished painter so I am more likely to be able to work out what is going on.

But and this is a shameless plug, there is always Figure Painter Magazine. OK its online only so not everyone cup of tea, but it is only £1.30 a month. ;)

As a translator I can assure you that it is most definitely not as simple as that! Not if you want something at least half-way coherent and correct.

Simple example:

German: Halten Sie das Bemalen von Figuren für eine Kunstform?

English: Do you consider figure painting to be an art form?

Google Translator: Keep the painting of figures for an art form?

Online-Translator: Do you hold painting of figures for an art form?

SDL FreeTranslation: Hold the painting of figures for an art form?

translate.reference: Do you think the painting of figures for an art form?

... and so on.

And that's just one simple sentence. The more complex the text, the more clauses (and subordinate clauses) you have, the more words with two (or more) possible translations that depend on subject, context etc., the more rubbish it will spit out at you.

understand my difficulty in reading and writing here ;)

as I see it is not necessary to publish a magazine in multiple languages.

a magazine may very well just edit the version in its native language (eg Spanish) and then for the French market attached to a magazine in black and white uncoated paper with a translation into French, for the British market a paper with the English translation and so on .... the cost of printing would be greatly reduced. If the translation is not well performed you can re alone in the points that are not understood well with the help of online translators, with the help of family or with the help of their club members

it's just a thought
