Ulrich, It's nice to see some serious research being done rather than doing a vignette that "looks" from the period ignoring even basic research.~Gary

Here some new pictures. The figures are nearly ready. Some cleaning is still need. When I get some equitments from Steve (The Fusilier) the trench will not look so empty. Some guns, gasmasks, helmets and so on.

So comments are welcome

Hola Ulrich,

Excelelnt work for your first sculpts.

The one thing I really like are the hands on the seated guy, very nice!

I think the folds are pretty decent, you have a good base for some finetuning with an x-acto blade, sharpening up the folds a bit. Its easy to do, and you can do it while watching TV. I would suggest a mini #10 blade, the blade thats curved.

And like said before, nice to see you do research!

Hello everyone

thanks for your comments

@ Roger: Perhaps we both will make next year a WWI project together. If you have a idea send it to me. But please remember, this is my first sculpt and I am at the beginning.

@ Anders: So I have something to do, when I am watching TV. I will try it. And I think, I must change the hands of the standing guy.

Ulrich - Very well done indeed! The folds and drapery you've done are very good - far better than my first, second, or even third ones!! IMHO however there are just a few too many. Try this - Have someone pose in the positions of the figures wearing loose-fitting clothing. Take some photos of them and use them to check against the numbers and depths of folds in the clothing. Don't try to duplicate them, but look at the different shapes of folds, different angles, etc. I've found this very helpful.

Marvelous idea for a vignette and it looks terrific!

All the best,
Dan

Ulrich,
That would be nice. I have some projects in the pipeline with Dan Morton but because I only work for six months of the year I'm sure i can find the time to paint some more :)
I won't find a subject too difficult for you to sculpt I promise

Roger.

@ Dan. Thanks a lot for your tip. I will try it, but don´t know, if I can correct the folds. But because it will be not my last figure I will use it the next time

@ Roger. O.K. I am waiting :) :)

Ulrich, Very well done for your first sculpting project. One thing that stands out is the soldier being shaved. His head would have looked better if he were looking up, as he would be easier to shave. :) ~Gary

Hi gary

I have my "problems" with shaving because ;)

I have no experience

But if you will have a look at the old postcard, there you can see, that the soldier is not realy looking up.

And the soldier is been lather (I hope it is the correct expression) at this moment.

Ulrich, I have relly enjoyed seeing you post your progress on this project. I particularly like the subject, since it is not the typical military situation. Your sculpting work is excellent. I hope to see it painted here soon.

Hi Pat

After I have change the sandbags, I will now starting with the painting. And I think, you can see in some days the first results.

Thanks

Ulrich

Here some new photos from the trench. I´ve made new sandbags and put some equipment in the trench. There is only missing an german helmet, which I am paiting at the moment and I start with painting the figures.
