My next project is a poilu ca 1916 from Jon Smith Modellbau. Does anyone know if a French Horizon Blue paint is available? I haven't been able to locate one (of course I can always mix my own if necessary).
Thanks.

The chauchat... maybe the most prone to jamming machine gun ever invented. An open magazine almost certain to attract dirt and debris? What were they thinking, Phil?

Rick

Yeah - crazy invention. The fact the French didn't catch on to rimless cartridges until the early 1930s condemned them to using this contraption. The US Army bought a load but thankfully John Browning had his BAR available by the time they needed it. That's comparing a Rolls-Royce with a 2CV:D

This is a great figure and I enjoyed painting mine... Are you planning to use the head with Adrian helmet or the younger one with Kepi...

Not sure yet, Warren. Waiting for the figure to arrive from Jon before I decide. All I've seen so far is pics. Should be here in the next day or two. Would love to see your finished poilu if you feel like posting him.

A real one ... but ... What you see on your screen is always depending of : 1 how your screen is tuned 2 external light on the screen 3 what is your level of chromatic aberration ( if any )

Enjoy:D

Thanks for the pic and the input. I have to be honest and demonstrate my ignorance.... what the dickens is chromatic aberration on a computer screen?

Hi Larsen. Couple of pics attached as requested..
Face and leather oils over acrylics.. The uniform was mixed from Model Colour acrylics to a colour I was happy with.. I'm a " she'll be right " sort of a painter. I'm happy with the result... No where near as good as most of the guys and ladies that produce stunning results, shown on this site and at the shows... buts that's ok.. I enjoy the hobby, even if my grey army could take over the world.. lol..
Jon Smith's figures are really good.. I do have a few..
Looking forward to seeing how your figure comes out.. All the best

Smithy

Please note. This is the first figure I have actually posted on this forum so please be kind..

Hey Smithy,
Good on ya for taking the plunge sharing here mate.
I’ve been researching Horizon Blue for past year for various projects & there is lots of variety depending on stage of conflict (early vs late), material manufacturers etc Colours tones you’ve mixed look to be in right ball park.
Keep experimenting, enjoying & sharing.

Warren,
Your Frenchman looks great! Nice job. The helmet looks like metal. The leather looks real. And the uniform looks lived in. Lots of nice detail. He's going into my WW1 reference file. Thanks.
Rick

Thanks for the comments guys... Rick has your figure arrived yet.. being that this is your blog, we are all looking forward to seeing your version (y) ...

Warren, nope... still waiting for him. I have decided to go with the head with the kepi though to keep from copying your work. It'll be interesting to compare the two when I'm done. It should have been here by now but the US Post Office is a disaster with delays right now.
