Why does it seem as though so many French uniform prints such as those by Rousselot and others only seem to appear with Russian text instead of the original French on the internet? I find it very much harder to try and translate the Cyrillic print to English than, European typography. I admit I don’t cut and paste, but usually retype the parts I can’t figure out. The most aggravating part is I know some of these plates used to be available with English text, because I had owned a number of them. Are the Russian enthusiasts the only ones that share their resources? Please excuse me for sounding like a grumpy old man, but apparently I have arrived.

Hi Kurt

Can't comment ref our Russian modellers but there are English books with references in

There's plenty of help here on PF so perhaps you might like to ask here as well ....or cut and past into a translator as well

Happy referencing

Not complaining , just wondering where all the original sources went too. Kind of a “back in my day .....”. I’m thankful our Russian friends are so willing to share wit us.

You'll find links to lots of sets of plates (not all with explanatory text) here.. and also links to other useful reference sites.

An English language edition of the Rouselot prints is around (I missed out in UK but it may still be available in US here?)... I assume that you can get the prints but without text?

Otherwise, Elting's books give commentaries on Knotel prints

And if you can hack French the Bibliotheque Nationale de France has lots of old books of prints, eg:

... and lots more if you can search/hunt for them :)

I had ordered the English version about a month ago. Hope it eventually comes. The frustrating part of seeing the prints online (even in Russian) is parts of each illustration is alphabetically keyed to a descriptive explanation which is never shown!

I guess I never finished ordering the Roussolot book. Did now though!
