Many many more eloquent people than me have the words to better express the feelings of the decent people touched by Monday nights horror.
One of the strongest message for me is the images of the ordinary people and emergency services who simply got on with it. You'll never hear them call themselves heroes,that's what makes them extraordinary, they'll never see themselves as that when they look in the mirror, we'll pass them in the street and not give them a second glance .......... that's how it is and should be, but they are giants on whose shoulders we all stand..........When the bell tolls for one of us we are all diminished but never forget that with every birth we are all enriched..
So no song this week but the words of John Donne's poem 'No Man is an Island'
No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
