As I mentioned relating to the figure, some matt varnish had done the opposite.
Simon (Briggsy) and Canterbury Coxwain had both recommended AK ultra matt varnish and Malcolm Oatley
had suggested a method using oils.
By chance I finally found a supplier for the AK varnish and ordered it straight away.
I didn't delay as it arrived I gave it a go..... and Wow, it certainly is good.
I now have a very nice matt finish.
So now I can get on and get it finished.

Cheers Simon,
Oils are certainly more forgiving, especially with flesh tones.
I gave up using oils, when I had to start wearing splints, and struggled with them, which is why I switched to
acrylics. I was quite pleased with how the painting went this morning, so fingers crossed I won't mess it up
and continue using them in the future.

Good that the skills are still there, keep using them because you're getting great results.

I would have been very disappointed if England had lost to Italy, that said the Italians are getting better and put up a good show.

Hi Malc

Wondered if you’d use oils on bigger Nap ? .....looking good so far .....look forward to seeing the face develop

Glad you got the matting varnish sorted ...hope we see updated pics of leggy Nap

Cheers Simon, It was a little strange going back to oils, but I love the ease of blending them.

Italy get better and better each year, and they scored some excellent tries against us.

Hi Nap,

I felt oils would be better, although looking back at my first version in acrylics, it wasn't that bad, just
too pinky for my own personal taste.

I've added some more detail as well as painting the eyes, and for once I remembered the eyebrows.
I'm going to let the oils dry and settle before deciding whether to push anymore of the detail.

Still we're the only team in this tournament they haven't beaten yet, just a matter of time I guess!

Following on from yesterday, I decided to add a hint of stubble after looking at some portraits of Napoleon.
I added a little Sepia to my middle flesh highlight, and carefully applied it to the appropriate area and softly blended
it in with a flat brush.
I finish off the hair next before going on to the hat.

I'm enjoying this Malc, and adding likes but I wouldn't dream of commenting on anyone's painting as it's always fingers crossed and hope for the best for me
Thank you, you're welcome to comment ... and I'm a big fan of your work, and as I've been told I'm my own worst critic and sounds like you're the same. You have loads of talent.

Hi Malc

Nice stubble on Nap ...guess the Imperial barber was out for the campaign ....seriously just enough and it looks good

Not a critique in any way ...perhaps look at the crease on his right eye , take the shadow down a touch ?

Nice eyebrows as well

I seriously don’t know how your managing 2 but doing a fine job on both

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy brushes
