plastic can be used in vulcanising presses nowadays because there are rubbers available which vulcanise at much lower temperatures than the old black nitrile discs.
 
Just one observation about construction. If one has to do a rifle for metal casting one still has to use putty and metal because of the vulcanising process, right?

This is true. However, I have always used plastic in my masters. The way around this is to do resin castings (in RTV silicone molds) as intermediate masters which go directly into the vulcanizer.

I always make the companies I know aware that I use plastic in my masters. It has never been a problem.
